Is Kate Middleton Very Uptight In Person?
In public, the royals are always seen smiling and laughing while engaging with crowds who have gathered to catch a glimpse of them. So many royal fans like to think that they’re like that all the time even though we don’t know if that’s really the case. Well now, we’re hearing that Kate Middleton may be a bit different than people perceive her to be.
Here’s who is claiming the Duchess of Cambridge is pretty uptight in person. Plus why people who have met Prince William describe him as “standoffish.”
Who said Middleton is too uptight?
Middleton has been compared to Princess Diana many times in the past but a confidant of the late princess has claimed that the duchess is not like her mother-in-law.
According to Diana’s former astrologer, Debbie Frank, Middleton needs to “relax a bit more.” She told Yahoo’s Royal Box that they’re so different because “Diana really warmed to people who were relaxed with her.”
Frank also compared the Duchess of Cambridge to Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle.
“Meghan is a complete firecracker of a girl — a throwback to the days of The Queen Mother and Princess Margaret, ” Frank said. “We’ve got a big showstopper there. A huge contrast with Kate, who’s very elegant and very dignified.”
She added that “Meghan’s a tour de force; she’s all about the Meghan Markle brand. She’s a very different person from Kate who’s careful and cautious; she’s going to do things properly and slowly and think about them.”
Is Prince William ‘controlling’ and ‘standoffish?’
There are also reports out there that Prince William may not be as down-to-earth as the public thinks. Some journalists have opened up about what the duke is like in person and those reviews aren’t good.
The documentary Reinventing the Royals interviewed several correspondents about Prince William and Kate Middleton’s first major public engagement in Australia in 2014 and they didn’t have the best impression of the prince.
Daily Telegraph Australia columnist Sarrah Le Marquand described the Duke of Cambridge as “very controlling” and “standoffish.”
“[He is] not quite the warm and fuzzy character that maybe some of the people lining up in the streets think he is,” she explained. “For all of his easy-going façade, Prince William is obviously a very controlling character.”
ITN royal correspondent Tim Ewart also revealed details about the visit and claimed William and Middleton refused to even acknowledge him.
“These are the first people I’ve ever covered who will not speak to me at all,” he said. “More than that, the people who represent them will brief me about their movements, about where I can go and where I stand, but they won’t tell me anything about what these people think.”
Other journalists apparently “weren’t so comfortable” around the couple either.
A complicated relationship
If it’s actually true that William and Middleton aren’t very warm to the press there’s a reason for that strained relationship.
The royal family has argued time and time again that their privacy is invaded far too often. And no one can forget how Princess Diana was hounded and chased around to her death in 1997. So these days because of the 24-hour media cycle, there is even more of a lens on the family which is something William and his wife are very mindful of.
