Is ‘Killing Eve’ Canceled Or Will There Be a Season 3?

Killing Eve is so good that it landed Sandra Oh a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama. The last time Oh was the recipient of the prestigious award was back in 2006 for Grey’s Anatomy.

Oh was renowned for her work on the medical series, but now she has a new golden ticket: one that has landed her four awards and a cult-like following for the show.

What is ‘Killing Eve’ about?

Killing Eve is a top-notch drama that was produced in the United Kingdom by Sid Gentle Films. The series takes inspiration from Codename Villanelle, a novella series that was written by Luke Jennings. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is the mastermind behind the television variant of the novella.

The show stars Oh as Eve Polastri, an MI5 agent who becomes absolutely obsessed with locating a notorious assassin. The assassin in question is played by Jodie Comer. Villanelle a.k.a Oksana Astankova isn’t just any old assassin. She’s unbelievably skilled and a psychopath to boot.

Following in Polastri’s footsteps, she also develops an unhealthy obsession with the mysterious with Polastri. What unfolds is an epic game of cat and mouse … one that blows the run of the mill spy thriller out of the water.

The first season was ordered back in November 2016. It premiered two years later on April 8, 2018. Considering the series had a good two years in production, it’s no surprise it’s absolute perfection! Before the show even premiered BBC America went ahead and put in a call for a second season! Clearly the show hit a high note in early screenings!

How is the second season of ‘Killing Eve’ doing?

The second season of Killing Eve just debuted on April 7, 2019, so it’s only been out in the wild for less than two weeks! So far only two episodes, “Do You Know How to Dispose of a Body?” and “Nice and Neat” by Damon Thomas and Emerald Fennell have aired. Even so, critics and fans alike have already begun weighing in on the second season of the award-winning show.

Currently, the series is ranked an impressive 97% on the Tomatometer. The average rating in 8.1/10 across 35 reviews. Every one of them rates the show as “fresh”! So what are critics saying?

“With the titillating cat-and-mouse game still rooted at its core, Killing Eve returns for an enthralling second season of considerably higher stakes, hilariously dark humor and a captivating dynamic between characters, solidifying its position as one of the best spy thrillers out.”

But what about the audience score? The critics are loving the show just a bit more than the average fans! The audience has rated the show 87% with the average rating being a 4.4/5 across 143 users. Not too shabby considering the first season has come in at 96% on the Tomatometer and 89% on the audience score. Only time will tell how the second season will stack up against the original!

Will there be a third season of ‘Killing Eve’?

The second season is currently going so well it would be hard to imagine there not being a third season! Well as it turns out, BBC America ordered a third season of the show on April 8th, a day after the premiere! That means the numbers must have been really promising. Not to mention the cult-like following would probably lose it if they had to call Killing Eve goodbye after six more episodes.

Fans can look forward to catching MI5 superstar Polastri and dangerously obsessed Villanelle in episode three, “The Hungry Caterpillar,” on April 21, 2019.
