Is Lori Loughlin’s Daughter Olivia Jade’s Return to YouTube Causing a Rift with Her Mom?
Tensions are running high in Lori Loughlin’s house as she and her husband Mossimo Giannulli fight the charges against them in the college admissions scandal — and their daughter Olivia Jade Giannulli begins her return to social media.
After stepping away from her popular YouTube channel (which currently has nearly 2 million subscribers), the 20-year-old influencer returned to social media on Dec. 1 with a new video. And her mom wasn’t exactly thrilled that her daughter is speaking out, according to a report in Us Weekly.
Lori Loughlin feels the video is a ‘big betrayal’
Olivia Jade quit social media after prosecutors charged her parents in the Operation Varsity Blues case. Loughlin and Giannulli are accused of paying bribes to ensure their two daughters were admitted to the University of Southern California. While she posted occasionally to Instagram, her YouTube channel was quiet for months.
In her latest video, Olivia Jade mostly talks about how much she’s missed filming. But she also mentions that even though the college admissions scandal is “something that needs to be addressed.” However, she says she “can’t talk about it” for legal reasons.
While the video might seem innocuous, it’s apparently upset her mom. Loughlin “was very clear in telling Olivia to remain quiet and not do anything controversial,” a source told Us Weekly.
“Olivia’s YouTube video was a big betrayal,” the insider added. “And cracks in the family are starting to show.”
The news that Loughlin feels betrayed by her daughter’s actions contradicts earlier reports about her family’s reaction to the video.
Shortly after she posted her newest video, a source told ET that her parents were supportive of her decision.
“YouTube was an important part of Olivia’s daily life and her brand, so when she stepped away from it she felt there was a void in her life,” the source said.
“Her life has always been so public and she had a life she was proud of, but the backlash, in the beginning, was more than she could take. Lori encouraged her to step away because it was brutal,” the insider went on to say. “Now that she has returned, she has been told that she cannot discuss her mom and dad or the ongoing case. Her parents are both supportive of her going back to YouTube, as long as she sticks to that rule.”
The source also told ET that “both of her parents encourage her entrepreneurial efforts” and that Loughlin “just wants what’s best for her daughter.”
Olivia Jade is getting legal advice
As she returns to social media, Olivia Jade has been getting advice about what she can and can’t talk about.
“Olivia’s lawyer is providing counsel as to what content and topics Olivia can safely discuss,” a source told Us Weekly. Her attorney’s advice includes “staying away from any mention of her parents’ legal troubles.”
The insider also said that there’s a chance that Olivia Jade could have to testify in her parents’ case. Meanwhile, her mother has been preparing for court by participating in mock trials with her lawyer.
