Is Meghan Markle Suing Mail on Sunday for Publishing the Letter to Her Father?

Just when you thought the Meghan Markle family drama couldn’t get any crazier… it just did.

Fans were in shock earlier this month when Mail on Sunday published a private handwritten letter that the Duchess of Sussex sent to her father, Thomas Markle Sr. In it, she wrote that he was “breaking her heart into a million pieces” by participating in interviews with the press and making up wild stories. The letter also expresses Markle’s dismay at how her father constantly sides with Samantha, the Duchesses’ half-sister.

But the letter was never meant to be seen by anyone besides the recipient. Meghan Markle may be part of the public eye now that she’s married into the royal family, but that doesn’t mean she deserves to have her private correspondence displayed for all to see.

Who is Meghan Markle suing over the letter?

Meghan Markle is reportedly “furious” at her dad for releasing the letter in the first place, and rightfully so. But she’s taking legal action against the publication who decided to publish it. According to the Guardian, Meghan Markle is threatening to sue Mail on Sunday for violating the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act.

This isn’t the first time royal family members have used the Act to threaten legal action against publications. The Duchess of Sussex has been in contact with the newspaper but so far no resolution is proposed.

Will Meghan Markle forgive her father?

The mistakes that Thomas Markle Sr. has made against Meghan Markle are too numerous to count at this point. But as they say, you can’t pick your parents, and he’s the only father that Markle has. Will she ever forgive him for what he’s done?

Everyone remembers all the family drama leading up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. First Thomas Markle got in trouble for staging paparazzi photos. Then he said he planned to walk her down the aisle, but ultimately backed out. And things haven’t calmed down since then.

Since the wedding, Thomas Markle has claimed he has no way to contact his daughter and that she’s been “ignoring him.” But one source says that’s not true at all. “She was willing to forgive him,” a close friend of Markle’s told ET. “She kept on reassuring him she loved him. She was hearing about her father’s condition, his heart attack, through the tabloids. After the wedding, she wrote a letter to her dad about wanting to repair the relationship.”

Is Meghan Markle close with the rest of her family?

For as much contention as there is between the Duchess of Sussex and her father, it really makes you wonder how she gets along with the rest of the family. However, Markle is exceptionally close with her mom, Doria Ragland. Ragland is even moving in with the royal couple for a few months after the baby is born to help out.

Doria Ragland and Thomas Markle, Sr. split up when Meghan Markle was two years old. Markle has two half siblings on her father’s side, Thomas Markle Jr. and Samantha Grant. But she’s not close with either one.

At least Meghan Markle has her mom to lean on in times like these.
