Is Meghan Markle the Best Thing to Happen to the Royal Family?

From the time that Prince Harry’s romance with Meghan Markle was revealed to the world, critics have been coming out the woodwork. From her family drama to her former acting career, many people seem to try to search for reasons to criticize Markle. The royal pair got married in May 2018, and unfortunately, the public criticism has only intensified, even causing the palace to crack down on social media bullies in response. In spite of the trolls, it seems that Markle has been doing much more good in the royal family than popular opinion seems to hold.

Is Markle making the royal family more modern?

While Meghan Markle has many detractors, there are a lot of fans who believe that she is helping to change the royal family’s image for the better. When she met Prince Harry, Meghan Markle was a successful actress, with a leading role in a popular TV show, Suits.

She ran a lifestyle blog, had appeared in a number of movies and television shows, and had thousands of fans. She was, and remains, a strong, independent woman who is used to taking care of herself.

This is a marked departure the usual pattern within the royal family. Many of the royal women never work (beyond the capacity of official appearances and public engagements) and don’t have thriving careers. Oftentimes, they are married quite young and devote their entire lives to raising their families. In the past, royals have rarely spoken out about causes that matter to them or made strong political statements.

Markle, on the other hand, is quite the opposite – she’s a champion for various charitable causes and is often described as a compassionate, sympathetic woman who has a backbone of steel.

What does the queen think of Meghan Markle?

Queen Elizabeth II is 92 years old, and although one might imagine that’s too set in her ways to adapt well to change, that doesn’t seem to be the case with Meghan Markle, her grandson’s new wife. According to many reports, the queen has liked Markle from the very beginning and has begun to be even more impressed in the months since Markle announced her pregnancy.

These reports claim that the queen appreciates how hard Markle has been working the past few months, traveling around the world in support of various causes even though she is heavily pregnant and very uncomfortable.

The queen also seems to go out of her way in order to lend her support to Markle, in light of the family issues she has experienced. Knowing that Markle is especially close with her mother, Doria Ragland, the queen has invited Ragland to multiple gatherings that had previously been reserved for royal family members only.

Then, of course, there’s the matter of royal fashion – in her relatively short time as a royal, Markle has become known as a fashion rule-breaker, routinely choosing clothes that buck the trend of highly conservative royal fashion. It is likely that the queen doesn’t even mind Markle’s clothing choices since after all, she gets the last say on most things that happen within the family.

Will public sentiment change after Baby Sussex is born?

The royal family clearly loves Meghan Markle, but the public doesn’t always share the sentiment. However, this attitude could change in the months ahead, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prepare for the arrival of their new baby.

Babies always soften a crowd, and it is likely that seeing Markle as a new mother could bring even more people around to her corner, and help them to realize that she’s quite a gift to the royal family.
