Is Meghan Markle Too Stubborn for the Royal Family?

Suddenly becoming a member of the royal family would be an intimidating thing for anyone. Even Kate Middleton – who was from a very prominent British family – found royal life a bit overwhelming at times.

We can only imagine how an American actress that was not well-versed on the dos and don’ts of royal life must have felt when she first realized that the Queen of the United Kingdom was going to be her grandmother-in-law.

While Meghan Markle is trying her best to fit in with the royals, many people think she is too “American” to ever be taken seriously as a royal. There has also been speculation that other members of the royal family find Meghan to be too abrasive and stubborn. Is there any truth to these rumors? Here is what we know.

Meghan Markle breaks from royal traditions

A few months back, Meghan Markle’s friends threw her an extraordinarily lavish baby shower. While this may seem normal to Americans, The Brits do not usually have baby showers for one another. This caused many people to start speculation as to whether Meghan was having a hard time conforming to her new family’s way. Many people also thought the royal family was not happy about her running off to New York to partake in American traditions.

Those accusations don’t seem to hold any truth. Today had talked to a royal expert, Victoria Arbiter, who says that it is perfectly fine for the Duchess of Sussex to keep her American traditions intact. “Meghan coming home from a baby shower – it’s absolutely in keeping with who Meghan is. She is doing it in America, where it is traditional, and she’s doing it with her group of very loyal girlfriends.”

When asked if the royals would disapprove of Meghan having a baby shower, Arbiter replied, “She wouldn’t be in the states having a shower if it was frowned upon.”

Does Meghan get along with Kate?

Since Harry and Meghan announced their engagement, there have been more rumors than we can count about how she and Kate Middleton do not get along with each other.

However, according to  Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, the two women have no beef with each other. “Kate knows that Meghan is no threat to her, and Meghan is mature enough to realize that her role is vastly different from Kate’s,” Burrell said.

When asked about the fact that Meghan may be a bit too outspoken for the royal family, Burrell was adamant about the fact it was not a problem. “I have no doubt that Meghan is not a ‘yes’ person. [She] speaks her mind and voices her opinions as an American woman of today would and should.”

She may be stubborn, but so is Harry

When you are married to a royal and you attend an event with them, there are certain protocols that must be followed. For instance, there are certain rules that dictate who walks into a room first and who sits where.

However, according to Express, a royal commentator named Keir Simmons suggests that if Meghan were ever to break protocol, Harry would have her back. She says that he “is her biggest supporter” and he is also pretty stubborn and doesn’t let people “tell him what to do.”

Does the royal family find Meghan too stubborn?

Apparently, all of the rumors that have been swirling about the royal family thinking that Meghan is not good enough for them have no merit. Kier Simmons also believes that most of those rumors were born from jealousy from the public. “Keep in mind, she swooped into Britain and married the most eligible bachelor in Britain so there is a lot of jealousy,” Simmons said.

We can’t be certain whether the royal family finds Meghan to be stubborn or not. But we do know that Harry is also known for his stubbornness, so that trait is not something that the royal family is unfamiliar with.
