Is ‘NCIS’ Planning On Killing Off Cote de Pablo’s Ziva After Her Shocking Return?
Cote de Pablo’s Ziva David is set to play a big part in the season 17 premiere of NCIS, though there is some speculation that her return might be short-lived. Ziva appeared in the season 16 finale after being presumed dead since season 13. The premiere should shed light on what Ziva has been doing since faking her death, but there are some fans who believe NCIS is going to kill her off shortly after her return.
Inside Ziva’s return to ‘NCIS’
Following Ziva’s surprise appearance last season, most fans thought she would only return for a couple of episodes in season 17. Executive producer Frank Cardea, however, revealed that Ziva will come back for four episodes this season.
Cardea announced that Ziva will appear in two episodes early in the season (the premiere and the second episode), followed by two more installments later in the year.
“There will be four episodes in this season, two early on and two fall/winter,” Cardea shared.
Ziva came out of hiding to warn Gibbs (Mark Harmon) about a serious threat. We do not know a lot about the threat, but we know that it was serious enough to bring Ziva out hiding.
The big reason Ziva faked her death was to protect her daughter, Tali. Coming out of the shadows puts Tali in harm’s way, so the threat has to be significant enough to warrant such action.
With the threat being dangerous enough to risk her family, is there a chance that NCIS will kill off Ziva before the season is over?
Will Ziva die in the midseason finale?
Cardea’s comments have sparked theories about Ziva’s ultimate fate. Ziva’s return for two more episodes in the fall/winter could mean that she comes back in time for the midseason finale.
If that happens, there is a chance that the threat pops up again this winter. This could bring Ziva back and opens the door for the show to end her journey in dramatic fashion.
According to Express, NCIS executive producer Steve Binder recently teased that Ziva’s story may end with her dying. Binder explained that each of Ziva’s cameos will be connected to each other, but how they are linked will not be apparent right away.
Binder also revealed that Ziva’s story this season will have “closure,” which could mean anything at this point. It is possible that Ziva dies in the midseason finale, but it could also mean that Ziva takes down the threat and is able to reunite with her family.
The series has already killed off Ziva once, so it could easily happen again. Hopefully, that does not happen and Ziva is able to reunite with her daughter and Tony (Michael Weatherly). Not only would this be a way better ending for the character, but it would also open the door for De Pablo to return at a later date.
What’s ahead for Ziva and Gibbs?
With Ziva officially out of hiding, we cannot wait until she reunites with the rest of the NCIS team. Only Gibbs and Bishop (Emily Wickersham) know that Ziva is alive, but that will change after the season premiere.
NCIS recently released promo photos for the new season, which include shots of Ziva alongside McGee (Sean Murray) and Torres (Wilmer Valderrama). McGee and Ziva look like they are catching up in the photos while some of the other images show her and Torres in the heat of battle.
We still do not know if Ziva will join the team in the premiere, but we do know that the season will start with Ziva teaming up with Gibbs.
In the trailer for the upcoming episode, McGee, Torres, and Jack (Maria Bello) are frantically looking for Gibbs, who has inexplicably gone missing. While the team searches for their leader, Gibbs and Ziva are on the hunt for the person behind the threat: a woman named Sahara.
It is unclear when the rest of the team will get involved, but the clip definitely makes it look like Gibbs and Ziva could use all the help they can get.
Season 17 of NCIS premieres September 24 on CBS.
