Is ‘NCIS’ Star Mark Harmon Married?
NCIS star Mark Harmon has been making hearts go pitter-pat for decades. In fact, when People magazine named their ‘sexiest man alive’ in 1986, the honor went to Harmon. The 6′ actor is as handsome as ever, and there is no doubt that a lot of women are wondering if he’s married.
Mark Harmon’s early life
Thomas Mark Harmon was born in Burbank on September 2, 1951. His dad, Tom Harmon, was a sports broadcaster who’d won the Heisman Trophy while attending the University of Michigan, and his mom, Elyse Knox, was an actress best known for her portrayal of Isobel Evans in the 1942 horror flick, The Mummy’s Tomb.
Harmon grew up with two sisters, Kristin and Kelly. Kristin married
Not much is known about Harmon’s romantic exploits at college, but once he focused on acting as a career, the gossip mills got busy. Notable relationships that garnered plenty of attention but never led to marriage include Harmon’s early romances with actresses Terri Garber and Morgan Fairchild, and pop songstress Karen Carpenter.
In 1981, Harmon landed a choice role on the prime-time soap opera Flamingo Road. He also landed his pretty co-star, Cristina Raines. The pair were an item for a couple of years, but they never married. When they broke up, Harmon had a brief albeit very public fling with TJ Hooker actress Heather Locklear whom he also did not marry.
Mark Harmon is married to Pam Dawber
When Pam Dawber walked into his life, 1986’s Sexiest Man Alive went off the dating circuit forever. Now married an impressive 31 years, the couple say that marrying in their thirties, after getting ‘the stupid stuff’ out of the way, is a key reason their union is so successful.
Introduced to Harmon by a mutual friend, Dawber was fresh off her run at Mork & Mindy and starring in a new sitcom, My Sister Sam. Harmon had made a name for himself on St. Elsewhere. Love happened fast for the new couple, but their marriage did come as a surprise for many.
Dawber and Harmon tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at Harmon’s high school alma mater in Studio City on March 21, 1987. The next day, the newlyweds popped the big news to guests in attendance at a backyard barbecue in Brentwood, explained AP.
It was -and remains- the first marriage for both
Harmon wears an offbeat, eagle-shaped wedding band when he’s not shooting scenes for NCIS. The ring, he explained to People magazine, formerly belonged to his grandfather.
“I wear it or a few others I have because when I’m not shooting, I like to make sure I have something on my ring finger, because I’m proud to be married, and I’m proud of who I’m married to. I’m just so proud of her.”
When Mark’s not working on the set of NCIS, the Harmons are content to hang out at home. In a recent interview with TV Insider, Harmon explained that being homebodies is not really a choice, it’s simply who they are.
