Is Prince Harry and Prince William’s Feud to Blame for Harry and Meghan Markle Skipping the Royal Family Christmas?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle won’t be spending Christmas this year with the royal family, instead choosing to spend the holiday with Markle’s mom Doria Ragland. Many royal fans think the decision has everything to do with the tension between Prince Harry and Prince William.

Palace confirmed Prince Harry and Markle’s Christmas plans

After rumors started swirling that Prince Harry and Markle were likely to skip the traditional Christmas festivities with Queen Elizabeth at her Norfolk estate, Buckingham Palace released a statement that confirmed their holiday plans.

Prince Harry and Markle will spend baby Archie’s first Christmas with Ragland and, while there were rumors that the queen was upset about the move, it seems she’s fine with it.

Buckingham Palace shared the following statement: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month. Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland.”

The statement noted: “This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”

Does Prince Harry and Prince William’s rift have anything to do with it?

While it may just be a case of the Sussexes wanting to spend some quality time with Markle’s mother, it hasn’t been that much of a reach to think that the tension between the brothers has something to do with them skipping the royal celebration.

Prince Harry confirmed that he and Prince William haven’t been getting along when he noted during an interview in the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey: “Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under… inevitably, you know, stuff happens.”

He continued: “But, look, we’re brothers. We’ll always be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him and, as I know, he will always be there for me.”

Prince Harry also touched on how their busy lives mean they “don’t see each other as much as we used to,” but he assured, “I love him dearly. The majority of stuff is created out of nothing.”

He also confirmed that his family isn’t that much different than anybody else’s sharing, “But as brothers, you have good days and you have bad days.”

A source told Us Weekly that the tension between them could be part of Prince Harry and Markle steering clear of the royals this holiday, noting: “Harry and Meghan are having a small Christmas with just immediate family instead of spending it at Sandringham. The rift between William and Harry is one of the main reasons behind their decision. As it’s Archie’s first Christmas, they want it to be super special. It’ll be just Doria and the three of them.”

The source further shared that “the drama surrounding the couple has caused a huge amount of stress. They’re making their family their number one priority right now.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton have missed this holiday tradition

While some critics are naturally taking aim at Prince Harry and Markle for snubbing the queen’s Christmas invitation, they’re actually not the only ones to miss the tradition.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have also missed the queen’s Sandringham Christmas celebration in the past to spend the holiday with Middleton’s family.
