Prince Harry’s Netflix Deal Could Be Another Sign of Him Rebelling Against the Royal Family
Although this is a big step toward financial independence for Harry and Meghan, not everyone in the royal family is on board. According to an alleged source, Prince William is “uncomfortable” with the Netflix deal. It also seems to be another sign of Harry going against the royal family.
Prince Harry has been called rebellious for many years now
Ever since Harry was young, it has been clear to onlookers that he had difficulties fitting into his role as a prince.
As a student, he experimented with drugs and was caught cheating in school. When he became a young adult, Harry found himself in several scandals, such as when he wore a Nazi costume in 2005 and when naked pictures of him in Las Vegas were leaked to the press in 2012.
Some people even suspect that Harry had been wanting to leave the royal family for years, and this was allegedly a reason he chose to marry Meghan.
Why Prince Harry could be rebelling against the royal family with his Netflix deal
Harry and Meghan announced their plan to be financially independent, and this Netflix deal with a huge step towards accomplishing their goal. However, there are reasons to believe Netflix and the royal family might have a fraught relationship thanks to the hit show The Crown.
The Crown premiered on Netflix in 2016 as a historical drama that showcases Queen Elizabeth’s life. Although the series has earned a lot of praise and awards, its not every royal likes the way The Crown portrays the monarchy.
According to Cosmopolitan, Princess Eugenie reportedly likes the show. Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth has been known to watch it, but she allegedly does not appreciate the way it portrays Prince Philip as an uncaring father to Prince Charles. At the same time, Prince William is said to not like it at all.
Given his family’s reported tension with Netflix, Harry’s latest deal with the streaming giant could be seen as a sign of rebellion from him.
Prince William is reportedly ‘uncomfortable’ with his brother’s Netflix deal
The Crown‘s season 4 will premiere in November, and the show has plans to portray Princess Diana’s struggles with bulimia and other personal issues. The Sun claims that William and other royals are not happy with this. As such, according to the outlet, this could cause a “clash” between William and Harry.
“William and other senior royals are incredibly uncomfortable about this drama and livid Harry is now in partnership with the company that’s airing it,” an insider told The Sun. “It’s the latest in a long line of flashpoints between the brothers, but there are few more sensitive subjects than the plight of their mother.”
The insider continued, “Viewers of The Crown — which is a candid look at the Queen’s reign — wouldn’t expect the writers to ignore something which is now a matter of public record. But the Royal Family also wouldn’t expect one of their own to take money made by the profits of shows like this.”
While The Crown might not paint the royal family in the best light, royal expert Katie Nicholl claims Harry and Meghan will do their best with the content they create to be “respectful” to the monarchy.
Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight, “They might be under pressure from Netflix to stray into upper territory but sources close to the couple tell me that they are very adamant that anything and everything that they do is very much going to be in a respectful tone to the Queen, the monarchy, and very much on their missions.”
