Is Prince Philip’s Health Why Princess Beatrice Changed Her Wedding Plans?

Despite recent health issues, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip seem determined to attend Prince Beatrice’s upcoming wedding. Beatrice is set to tie the knot with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at the end of May but has faced a slew of problems planning her big day. Beatrice originally wanted to exchange vows in Italy, yet she was forced to settle for a ceremony in London. Is Prince Philip’s health the real reason Beatrice had to change her wedding plans?

Buckingham Palace confirms Princess Beatrice’s wedding

As the oldest daughter of Prince Andrew, Beatrice announced her engagement to Mozzi this past fall. The couple shared some adorable photos on social media and seem poised for a lavish royal wedding in 2020.

Beatrice’s wedding, however, came during a turbulent time for the royal family. Last year, her father was forced to step down from his royal duties in light of his scandalous ties to Jeffrey Epstein, raising questions about the scale of the ceremony.

Just when Princess Beatrice’s wedding seemed to be back on track, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s shocking departure at the beginning of January derailed things once again.

Although the ceremony has suffered through numerous delays, Buckingham Palace recently released a statement confirming the date and location of Beatrice’s wedding. The ceremony will officially take place inside Chapel Royal on May 29, 2020.

“Her Majesty the Queen has kindly given permission for the ceremony to take place at the Chapel Royal, St. James’ Palace,” the statement read. “The ceremony will be followed by a private reception given by the Queen, in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.”

What happened to the Italy plans?

Although there is no doubt that Princess Beatrice’s wedding will be a gorgeous affair, she reportedly wanted to tie the knot in Italy. Mozzi’s family hails from Italy and he still has strong ties to the country’s nobility.

According to Express, Beatrice’s plans for a destination wedding were changed because of Philip’s health. The royals apparently felt like Philip was not up for a trip to Italy and asked Beatrice to change the location.

This past Christmas, Prince Philip spent a few days in the hospital, though his condition was not believed to be serious in nature. As royal watchers will recall, he retired from royal duties a few years back and spends most of his time out of the spotlight.

Queen Elizabeth has also suffered from health issues in recent months. Back in January, Her Majesty canceled a royal engagement because she was sick. Fortunately, the illness was not serious, though Queen Elizabeth rarely travels outside of the UK anymore.

With Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth not able to fly to Italy, Princess Beatrice was left with no choice but to have the wedding in London. After all, one doesn’t turn away the Queen of the United Kingdom when she wants to attend a wedding.

Queen Elizabeth rests at Sandringham

While we wait to learn more about Princess Beatrice’s wedding, Queen Elizabeth has spent the past few months at her estate in Sandringham. Her Majesty stays in Sandringham during the holidays every year, though she extended her winter break this year to the beginning of February.

The reason Queen Elizabeth remained in Sandringham was to pay respects to her father, King George VI, who passed away on February 6, 1952. Although the date marks Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the throne, it is a somber day for Her Majesty and the rest of the royal family.

To honor the memory of her dad, Queen Elizabeth kept to herself on February 6. Prince Philip, who has been married to Queen Elizabeth for 72 years, was also on hand to keep her company.

A few days before the anniversary, Queen Elizabeth appeared at the grand opening of Wolferton’s new pumping station. The new station is located on the grounds of Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham Estate and was reportedly a favorite haunting of her father, who helped unveil the original building in 1948.

Queen Elizabeth has not commented on the various reports surrounding Princess Beatrice’s wedding. Along with appearing at the ceremony, Queen Elizabeth is fully expected to make an appearance at the reception inside Buckingham Palace.

Although Princess Beatrice and Edoardo did not get an Italian wedding, Beatrice reportedly picked Chapel Royal. Not only is it the same place where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert tied the knot in 1840, but it is also where she was christened.
