Is Rihanna a Fan of Lizzo?

Lizzo has taken the music scene by storm in the past several years, with 2019 known in pop culture as the “year of Lizzo.” The talented artist had an incredibly interesting upbringing and has become well-known for her sassy verses, musicality, and mantra of self-love. It seems like everyone wants to work with Lizzo, including one iconic artist that has mostly stayed away from music in the months of late.

Lizzo was born Melissa Viviane Jefferson in Detroit, Michigan, in 1988. Her entire family moved to Houston, Texas, when she was nine years old and that city was where she spent the majority of her childhood years. By the age of fourteen, Lizzo had developed an affinity for music and started performing in small groups with her friends.

She attended the University of Houston on a music scholarship, thanks to her impressive skills with the flute. The flute has become a major part of Lizzo’s stage shows, and she expertly blends classical music with catchy rap beats in a way that perhaps no other living artist does.

In 2013, Lizzo released her debut album, titled Lizzobangers. The album became an underground hit, praised by critics for its originality. She continued working hard at her craft over the next several years, releasing a second album in 2015. By late 2018, Lizzo started achieving serious commercial success, and fans all over the world started recognizing her name. In 2019, Lizzo became one of the hottest artists around, expanding her talents to appear in films like Hustlers, opposite Cardi B and Jennifer Lopez.

Rihanna admitted she “loves” Lizzo

While millions of fans all over the world love and appreciate Lizzo’s unique talents, there are a lot of celebrity supporters who have jumped on the Lizzo bandwagon. Soulful singer Sam Smith is a huge fan of Lizzo and has repeatedly sung her praises on social media. Other superstar fans who have spoken out publicly to proclaim their love of Lizzo include Shania Twain, Solange Knowles, Jameela Jamil, Tracee Ellis-Ross, Missy Elliot, Cardi B, and Whoopi Goldberg.

Another serious Lizzo supporter is a business mogul and musical icon: Rihanna. While at her Fenty x Savage lingerie fashion show, Rihanna was asked if she would ever consider working with Lizzo on a lingerie line. Rihanna’s response was immediate: “Gosh, I love Lizzo.”

Rihanna proclaimed: “She’s so badass.” Rihanna also stated that Lizzo represents what Rihanna’s brand is all about: inclusivity for all women, regardless of size, and feeling good in one’s own skin.

Could Rihanna and Lizzo collaborate?

The fashion show wasn’t the first time that Rihanna has praised Lizzo. Following Lizzo’s performance at the 2019 Video Music Awards, Rihanna sent Lizzo a private message, raving about how great her performance was. Lizzo has spoken out in the past saying that she would absolutely love to collaborate with the superstar.

Whether or not the two women could collaborate on a project remains to be seen. Right now, Rihanna has stepped back from music to focus on her clothing and makeup lines, but rumors that she’s returning to music keep swirling.

As for Lizzo, she has shown a willingness to get involved in other industries besides music and is already making waves with her brief appearance in Hustlers. It is definitely possible that these two could get together for something in the near future.
