RuPaul is married to Georges LeBar

Everybody say “love!” According to RuPaul, the two meet in 1994 on Georges LeBar’s Birthday. There, at Limelight in New York City, the two danced together, when RuPaul was 34-years-old. The two were together for 23 years before finally getting married. During an interview with Buzzfeed, RuPaul shared that the couple never intended on getting married.

“No, I don’t stand on ceremony, I never want to conform to anything. We looked into it if we could get a tax break and stuff but not because… Is he devoted to me? Am I devoted to him? Oh, hell yes. [But] I never want to be like everybody else,” RuPaul said. In general, LeBar stays out of the spotlight, enjoying life on a ranch in Wyoming.

RuPaul and Georges LeBar have an open marriage

Not so surprisingly, RuPaul Charles and Georges LeBar have an open relationship. During an interview with Vogue Magazine, RuPaul elaborated on why the two have an open marriage and the love the couple has for each other.

“I love him too much to try to put shackles on him,” RuPaul said. “Love is free. It’s not that sort of romantic surface thing we all bought into. He is my most favorite person that I’ve met. Besides, Gore Vidal said you should never pass up an opportunity to have sex or be on television.”

Although RuPaul often shares pictures together in different countries and spending time in Wyoming, the drag celebrity also balances his time with his multiple television shows, including the Emmy-award winning series RuPaul’s Drag Race.

RuPaul often mentions his chosen family on his reality series, ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’

With his own talk show, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and a United Kingdom-adaptation of the series under his belt, it’s hard to imagine RuPaul has time for relationships. Aside from relationships and marriage, RuPaul often discusses the “chosen family” that people in the LGBTQ community have.

“I love my sisters. They’re great, but the people on my path, like the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion, they’re the ones who I have forged this life with, this real bond. They’ve allowed me to be who I am in a way that my first family really couldn’t. They did initially, but I moved on,” said RuPaul in an interview with Vanity Fair. Thanks to RuPaul’s television series, the drag queens who competed created a family together, often calling each other “sister.”

Episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked are available for streaming on and on the VH1 app. To see RuPaul up close and personal, RuPaul’s DragCon takes place at the Javits Center in New York City from Sept. 6 through Sept. 8. The convention returns to Los Angeles in spring 2020.
