Is Sophie Turner Mad That Diplo Live-Streamed Her Wedding to Joe Jonas?
Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner married singer Joe Jonas in a surprise Las Vegas on May 1. But what was supposed to be a private event turned into a public sensation when Diplo live-streamed the entire ceremony.
“He did ruin it,” Jonas jokingly said during a recent interview on Capital Breakfast With Roman Kemp about the DJ/producer’s public posting of the couple’s vows on Instagram.
“I love Diplo, but he loves his ‘gram more than a 13-year-old,” Jonas said. “He posts every five seconds. He literally, like, live-streamed with dog face filters.”
But the newlywed stressed that he wasn’t too upset with Diplo’s actions.
“We loved it. We thought it was ridiculous,” Jonas added. “I just love that he was walking into the chapel and he’s like, ‘Gonna hit this wedding right quick.'”
What Sophie Turner had to say about the situation
Now, Sophie Turner is speaking out about what Diplo — who the couple had hired to be their wedding DJ — did.
“[I]t’s tricky when people livestream it,” the 23-year-old actress told Porter magazine. “It would have been better if no one had known, but I actually think it was funny.”
While the Dark Phoenix star didn’t seem too angry that Diplo shared her and Jonas’s vows with the world, she did say that she would have preferred to keep the marriage a secret for a time.
“Maybe not forever. I think at some point I would have had to stop saying ‘fiancé,’ but yes, I would have kept it a secret. Marriage is a private thing between two people and I think that’s how it should always be.”
What Diplo had to say
After Jonas said that Diplo “ruined” his wedding to Turner, Diplo shot back.
“[T]he only thing that ‘ruined’ the wedding was your fit,” he wrote on Instagram. Jonas replied with an eye-rolling emoji.
Do Jonas and Turner have another wedding planned?
While Turner and Jonas might be a bit disappointed that their private ceremony turned out to be not so private, they could be getting a do-over. The couple are said to be planning a more elaborate wedding in France to take place this summer.
During her interview with Porter, Turner played coy about whether wedding No. 2 was still on, saying, “I don’t know.” But a source told US Weekly that the European wedding will happen in June.
Why did Turner and Jonas opt to get hitched in Vegas in the first place? Neither has commented on the reason for the surprise wedding, but the likely reason was that they needed to have a legal wedding in the U.S. in addition to one in Europe.
“They knew they needed to have a legal ceremony in the U.S. and decided a few weeks ago to do it in Vegas after the Billboard Awards,” a source told E! News. “Some of their friends and family would be there so it felt like the perfect timing.”
While another celebration might happen, Turner was quick to stress that the party wasn’t the most important part of getting married.
“It’s not about the dress, it’s not about the food,” she said. “It’s about being husband and wife, and being dedicated to each other forever.”
