Is this New Toy The Villain In ‘Toy Story 4’?
It’s been over 20 years since Toy Story first premiered and Andy’s Toys captured our hearts. Now, Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the gang are about to return for an all-new adventure in Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 4. The third sequel to Toy Story is set to premiere on June 21, 2019, and this time around we’re about to be introduced to a bunch of new toys we’ve never seen before.
The last time we saw Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the crew was in 2010’s Toy Story 3 when Andy headed off to college and he passed down his beloved childhood playthings to Bonnie. Things are going great for the clan who are very much enjoying their new owner. However, that all changes when a new toy gets thrown into the mix.
What is Toy Story 4 about?
When Toy Story 4 picks up, Andy, Woody, and Jessie are doing their thing and enjoying their idyllic existence as members of Bonnie’s toy collection. However, by the looks of the teaser trailer, things aren’t about to remain harmonious for much longer. In Disney’s press release, the movie’s official synopsis reads, “But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.”
Looking at the teaser trailer, when Forky finds his way into Bonnie’s toys, all hell breaks loose. He begins screaming “I’m not a toy!” and our favorite cowboy, cowgirl, and space ranger have no idea what to do about that.
So who is Forky?
In Toy Story, Buzz had trouble accepting that he was a toy because he thought he was an actual space ranger. However, Forky’s story is a bit more complicated than that. The poor lad is actually a spork that Bonnie has turned into a toy, and he’s facing a real-life identity crisis. Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley explained, “The world of Toy Story is built upon the idea that everything in the world has a purpose. A toy’s purpose is to be there for its child. But what about toys that are made out of other objects? Forky is a toy that Bonnie made out of a disposable spork, so he’s facing a crisis. He wants to fulfill his purpose as a spork, but now has a new toy purpose thrust upon him.”
Many adult fans of Toy Story will probably understand Forky’s dilemma, and you’ll certainly recognize his voice. Arrested Development and Veep actor Tony Hale is taking on the role of the poor spork who finds himself unwittingly amongst a group of actual toys. Quite frankly, the actor is just as thrilled about joining the Toy Story franchise as we are.
He said in the teaser trailer’s press release, “It’s a huge thrill to be part of the Toy Story family. But it’s going to take a while for it to really sink in.”
We’re just delighted that after all this time, the gang is back together again and that we get to see them head off on a whole new adventure.
