Is This the Crazy Reason Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner Are Reportedly Planning a Second Wedding?

Don’t you just love surprise celebrity weddings? Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are officially married!

The love birds walked down the aisle on Wednesday evening after the Billboard Music Awards in a surprise ceremony in Las Vegas.

It was certainly a high night for Jonas as he and his brothers, Nick and Kevin, performed their new song “Sucker” at the Awards just before heading to the Chapel L’Amour inside A Little White Wedding Chapel.

During the ceremony, Dan + Shay sang “Speechless” while the Game of Thrones star walked down the aisle. And in true Vegas fashion, an Elvis impersonator officiated the wedding.

Jonas’ bandmates and brothers acted as his groomsman and Diplo and Khalid looked on as witnesses.

The marriage was announced on Thursday.

“We can confirm Sophie and Joe were married in Las Vegas last night,” a rep for Turner told People yesterday.

Did Turner and Jonas already have a wedding planned?

This wedding comes as a surprise because Jonas has previously spoken about getting married to Turner outside of the U.S.

“I mean, we are getting married in France, so a lot of Coors Light is necessary,” he said in an interview on the Zach Sang Show.

Why did they get married in Vegas?

A source told People that the couple needed to wed outside of France to make their marriage legitimate.

“At least one of the parties to be married must have resided in France for at least forty days immediately preceding the marriage. This precludes a wedding in cases where both parties are only visiting for a short stay,”
according to the U.S. Embassy & Consulates in France via People.

“In France, a religious ceremony does not constitute a legal marriage.”

Which means that Turner and Jonas’ wedding in France would not actually have made them a wedded couple. So, this Vegas wedding took care of the legal aspect.

Are Jonas and Turner still planning a second wedding in France?

The answer is a resounding, “Yes!”

“They had to get married in the States to make it legal, but the wedding is still in Europe,” a source told the outlet.

Though there is no date set, the couple has previously said that the wedding will be sometime in the summer.

“We’re getting married this year,” Jonas told James Corden on The Late Late Show. “We’re going to have a summer wedding. I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

How did Turner and Jonas get together?

Turner and Jonas’ love story is a millennial tale if there ever was one. The two began talking in November 2016 after Jonas slid into Turner’s dms on Instagram when a friend suggested that he meet her.

Things moved quickly after that.

By December, the two were together exclusively and sources told People that Jonas was “willing to settle down for her.” Which was a big deal because Jonas has had a reputation for being quite the playboy.

Fast forward to 2017 and Jonas popped the question to his English lover.
