In 2016, the world was introduced to one of the funniest and compelling TV shows on the air today. The show — Insecure — was created by YouTube star Issa Rae. This HBO original series illustrates the struggles that African-American women have to go through on a daily basis in a light-hearted and hilarious way.

Insecure has already had three very successful seasons. This unique comedy-drama series is set to return to the small screen next year for season four.

After watching the show for three seasons, fans have already guessed that Rae is somewhat of a creative genius. However, she has just taken her creativity to the next level by creating her own record label.

How did Issa Rae become famous?

Rae first gained worldwide recognition when she started her own web series entitled The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl. The series was a big hit with fans from every race and gender.

The series would take awkward, everyday moments, like unsuccessfully trying to twerk in front of other people. Rae has also come out with a book that has the same title, and it quickly became an instant hit with fans all over the world.

Because of her growing popularity, Rae decided to turn her funny ideas into a full-blown TV show. On October 9, 2016, Rae’s new comedy entitled Insecure first Aired on HBO and fans were immediately drawn to the hilariously creative premise of the show. Rae is not only the creator of the show, but she is also one of the writers as well as the main star.

Issa Rae’s new record label

According to Pitchfork, this year has been one of Rae’s busiest years so far. Not only is her TV show still going strong, but she has also decided to create her own record label.

The new label, called Raedio, has recently partnered with Atlantic Records to produce some of the hottest music. 

In a press release about her new label, Rae had said: “Music has always been an essential part of every project I do and working with emerging talent is a personal passion. Raedio allows me to continue that work within the music industry and audio entertainment space. The Atlantic Records team are innovators in terms of shifting and shaping culture. I’m excited to join forces with them to discover new artists.”

So far, Rae’s label has already signed a new talented singer named TeaMarr. TeaMarr is a Haitian-American singer from Los Angeles that creates songs with catchy beats and meaningful lyrics.

TeaMArr’s newest single Kinda Love and has already accumulated quite a fanbase. The music video for Kinda Love was just recently released and many fans were pleasantly surprised to learn that Rae was featured in the video.

Issa Rae’s future looks bright

Season 4 of Insecure is set to return sometime next year. Many fans were curious about why the show would be waiting so long to come back.

HBO’s programming chief, Casey Bloys, had said it has to do with Rae’s popularity. Bloys said: “Issa became a big movie star.”

Rae recently landed a few different roles in movies like Lovebirds and Little. With her schedule being so busy, she needed a little extra time before reprising her role in Insecure.

According to Thrillist, season 4 of Insecure is looking like it is going to be just as entertaining as the other three seasons have been. So far, all of the original cast is set to come back. And Issa and Molly’s (Yvonne Orji) friendship will be put to the test.
