J-Hope Became the First Member of BTS to Chart on the Billboard Hot 100 as a Soloist

J-Hope released his collaboration with Becky G, “Chicken Noodle Soup,” and the song is a hit. The song has broken several records for J-Hope and shown what kind of charting power the members of BTS have as soloists. Most recently, J-Hope became the first member of BTS to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 as a soloist.

J-Hope is the youngest Korean male soloist to chart on the Billboard Hot 100

“Chicken Noodle Soup” debuted at No. 81 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. With the song, J-Hope became the third Korean soloist to debut on the chart. He is also the highest-charting Korean soloist since PSY, and the youngest Korean male soloist to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

“J-Hope has instant demand in the US. With no announcement, no promo or performances, and MINIMAL radio play- a DEBUT at 81 on the Hot100 is incredible. He has fans WAITING on him here, ready at a moment’s notice,” wrote a Twitter user.

“ALMOST EXACTLY 2 YEARS AFTER DNA AND A MEMBER GOT ALMOST THE EXACT SAME CHART POSITION FOR HIS SOLO WORK,” a fan tweeted.

“I WONDER IF YALL UNDERSTAND. A FREE. UNPROMOTED. SONG. NO RADIOPLAY. NO ANTICIPATION OR BUILDUP BC IT WAS A SURPRISE DROP. DEBUTED AT #81. ON THE BILLBOARD HOT100…,” another tweeted.

J-Hope of BTS is the second Korean artist to reach No. 1 on the iTunes chart

The Billboard Hot 100 chart debut is not the only accomplishment J-Hope achieved with “Chicken Noodle Soup.” The rapper also achieved an iTunes record. J-Hope became the second Korean artist to reach the No. 1 spot on the U.S. iTunes chart since PSY.

He is also the fastest Korean soloist to reach the No.1 spot. Big Hit Entertainment released free versions of “Chicken Noodle Soup” on multiple platforms. Still, BTS fans bought the song on iTunes.

J-Hope also broke a Spotify record

It should be no surprise J-Hope achieved so many things with “Chicken Noodle Soup.” Even before the song’s release, the rapper was the most followed Korean artist on Spotify. In September 2019, J-Hope surpassed 2 million followers on Spotify.

J-Hope is the first Korean artist to achieve this, and he surpassed 2 million followers while only having seven solo songs available on Spotify. All of the songs were from his 2018 mixtape, Hope World.

The other members of BTS also have successful solo careers

While J-Hope is the first member of BTS to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the other members of BTS also have solo achievements. In August 2019, Jungkook set a Billboard record. Jungkook became the longest-charting solo male K-Pop idol on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart with his song, “Euphoria.”

Like J-Hope, Jimin broke a Spotify record in 2019. Three of Jimin’s solo songs “Lie,” “Intro: Serendipity,” and “Serendipity (Full Length Edition)” each achieved over 50 million streams on Spotify. This made Jimin the first Korean artist to have three solo songs earn 50 million streams.

RM has released two mixtapes, RM and Mono, with Mono achieving praise from music critics. In 2016, Suga released a successful mixtape titled Agust D. Jin’s solo song “Tonight” has over 21 million listens on SoundCloud. In 2019, V released “Winter Bear” and the music video has over 24 million views on YouTube.

“Yo! Im imagining the guys congratulating Hobi and telling him ‘you’ve opened the door for us to chart on hot100 as soloists in the future’…,” one fan tweeted.
