James Charles is Back on YouTube after Tati Westbrook Feud
James Charles fans, you’re in luck! The 20-year-old makeup guru is back on YouTube.
Charles first took a break from the site after his infamous feud with former mentor Tati Westbrook took over the internet and was trending for days. During this time, Charles lost millions of subscribers, while Westbrook seemed to gain popularity from the feud.
Despite the rough few weeks that Charles has been having, he seems optimistic about the future.
What does Charles have to say about his return?
Yesterday, Charles posted a video called “Hi Sisters” on YouTube to announce his return.
“It feels so weird to be sitting here in the studio,” he said in the video. “I basically just took a much-needed month-long break from filming YouTube videos and also from social media. I’ve been posting here and there, easing my way back into everything, but it’s been a very, very crazy month.”
He went on to tell fans why he took a break from social media.
“It was so much fun, but it got to a point where it was incredibly toxic for me and my mental health and after everything that just went on on social media, I needed some time to detox and slow it down,” he continued. “Of course, still do what I absolutely love, which is handling business, playing with makeup and seeing my friends, but just do it on a little bit of a lower scale.”
“I’m really excited to say that after the last month, I’ve done a lot of growing and thinking and am now able to leave my phone in another room and walk out and, like, enjoy life,” he said. “For me, that’s major, major progress. I’m in a better state than I was, mental-health-wise and I am just so blessed to have the same amazing friends that I have around me.”
What happened between Charles and Westbrook?
The feud with Westbrook and Charles started when Charles posted content for SugarBearHair, which is in direct competition with Westbrook’s Halo Beauty products. Westbrook, who was extremely close to Charles, felt betrayed and released a 43-minute video titled “BYE SISTER,” detailing what happened between her and Charles.
“My relationship with James Charles is not transactional,” she said in the video. “This is me having someone who I mentored, someone who I cared for, really not care for me. … I wrapped so much love around this kid. … I absolutely loved James Charles. My husband loved James Charles. He had an open door here in my home, anytime he had a problem, anytime he needed life advice, business advice, we were here for him.”
She went on to say that she was upset about more than just Charles working with SugarBearHair.
“This is more than just a sponsored post,” she said. “It has layers. There’s so much going on with James Charles right now that I do not support. That I do not agree with. Fame, power, and a fat bank account will change almost anyone. And if you don’t have people who will tell you to your face that you’re doing the wrong things, you will change. I tried to be that person for you, I really tried. I don’t think there’s any getting through with you and I don’t want to be friends with you. I don’t want to be associated with you. And I need to say that publicly so that this chapter will be closed.”
The video has since been deleted.
