Welcome to the end, Supernatural fans. After fourteen phenomenal seasons, The CW series will air its final 20 episodes starting Oct. 10. But, this won’t be the last time you see Jared Padalecki, who has played Sam Winchester for the past 13 years. On Sept. 23, Deadline reported Padalecki has been recruited to executive produce and lead the new Walker, Texas Ranger revival, titled Walker. According to the publication, Padalecki will play Cordell Walker, originally portrayed by Chuck Norris in the original ’90s CBS show. The new reboot will also follow the same storyline as the classic Albert S. Ruddy and Leslie Greif-created series.

“Walker is getting a female partner, will explore morality, family, and rediscovering our lost common ground,” Deadline explained. Meanwhile, Padalecki’s character is described as “a man finding his way back to his family while investigating crime in the state’s most elite unit. Our broken widower and father of two returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years for a high profile case – only to discover that there’s even more work to be done at home.”

Nevertheless, the Walker, Texas Ranger reboot is currently in development with CBS Television Studios. However, the series isn’t attached to a network yet, per Variety. So fans will have to stay tuned for more details as they progress.

Fans react to Padalecki’s first new role after ‘Supernatural’

Regardless of what happens, Supernatural fans turned to social media to express their excitement over Padalecki’s new project. And most seemed to welcome his new role with open arms.

“I’m so flippin’ excited for @jarpad and proud af,” one user wrote on Twitter. “He deserves so much greatness and although Sam Winchester will be missed, I hope this role becomes a part of him he, and us all, will love as well.”

“Congratulations,” another fan tweeted at Padalecki. “This made my Year!! The fact that we’ll be able to see you after #Supernatural is a HUGE relief!”

Meanwhile, other fans pointed out Padalecki’s transition to Cordell Walker seems like an easy one. “I didn’t see that coming,” a fan on Reddit explained. “But it’s set in Austin and he is incredibly fit so I think it’s a great match! I can see him really suiting that role.”

But some fans couldn’t help but feel a bit of sadness, as Padalecki would be working on a new project without Jensen Ackles, who plays Sam Winchester. “I’m really happy for Jared. It will be very strange to see him working without Jensen,” a Redditor shared. “But I wish him well and I hope this Texas Ranger will be appreciated as the original one. I am very curious to see Jared in a different role than Sam Winchester, even though this is very sad because I will miss the Winchesters.”

Even though Padalecki’s Texas, Walker Ranger project has yet to be picked up by a network, this fantastic news for fans of Supernatural. Ultimately, the actor is ready to pursue new projects after The CW series. And although he won’t be reprising Sam Winchester, fans won’t have to wait long before seeing Padalecki again onscreen.
