Jeff Goldblum Just Defended Woody Allen and Fans Are Upset
In a recent interview, Jeff Goldblum talked about Woody Allen and if he would work with the controversial director again. Although Goldblum’s comments weren’t received well on social media, he just the latest of several actors that have come out in a defense of Allen.
Jeff Goldblum says he’d consider working with Woody Allen again
In the interview with iNews, Goldblum said, “I think there is a presumption of innocence until proven guilty. I know I enjoyed working with him many years ago and I sat in with his band once too.”
He continued, “Even though I feel like this cultural shift [the #MeToo movement] is very, very positive and long overdue and I support it wholeheartedly and take it very seriously, I also admire his body of work. So I would consider working with him again, until I learned something more (negative).”
Goldblum is just the latest in a group of celebrities to offer support to Allen
Several celebrities have either worked with Woody Allen after he became ostracized in the industry or said they would work with him again.
One of these people is actress Gina Gershon, who appears in Allen’s upcoming film, Rifkin’s Festival.
Gershon defended Allen on Instagram in a reply to a fan, saying, “I don’t believe that [the allegations] to be true. You should really do all of the research and read all of the articles before believing that. It’s really important to make up your own mind and not go by what the masses claim. I’ve done extensive research and I can say with very clear conscience that I’m so happy to be working with him. This man is not a sexual predator!”
Scarlett Johannson also stirred up controversy recently due to her comments about Allen. When asked about the director, Johannson said, “How do I feel about Woody Allen? … I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime. I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him. It’s hard because it’s a time where people are very fired up, and understandably. Things needed to be stirred up, and so people have a lot of passion and a lot of strong feelings and are angry, and rightfully so. It’s an intense time.”

Most fans are on social media have met Goldblum’s remarks with swift criticism. “Jeff Goldblum is cancelled. Never thought it would happen. Used to think to myself ‘Imagine if Jeff Goldblum got cancelled’ And here it is,” tweeted someone.
Another person said, “jeff goldblum defending woody allen is like your really cool uncle saying something racist around you for the first time. you expected better of him bc you liked him, but in the end you’re not really all that surprised.”
Someone else said, “Aaaaannnd that’s the final nail in the coffin that was my adoration of jeff goldblum. all men let you down eventually.”
Some, however, were supportive of what Goldblum said. “It’s embarrassing that anyone thinks they even have the ability to ‘cancel’ Jeff Goldblum. All he’s done is voiced, rather sensibly, that he supports #MeToo but also believes in innocent until proven guilty which literally everyone on this planet should,” tweeted one person.
The interview was in support of Goldblum’s upcoming Disney+ series, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, which premieres on November 12.
