Jennifer Aniston Did Her Instagram Homework, Says ‘Making Content Baby’

Jennifer Aniston is known for her distaste of social media, but the star recently broke Instagram when she finally created an account. However, she didn’t just jump in without thinking it over.

Aniston put a great deal of thought into her social media debut and came in fully prepared. Here’s what we know about Aniston’s Instagram strategy.

Jennifer Aniston started with a fake Instagram account

Before she started her official account, Aniston needed to “dip her toe into the social media pool” first. Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Aniston admitted that she started a fake account, or a “finstagram” like Jimmy Kimmel claimed the kids are calling it. The fake account allowed her to get the hang of Instagram, without the pressure of everyone knowing it was her.

“It was a stalker account, yes,” she admitted.

Aniston has long been a holdout on social media. While other celebs learned quickly the benefits of an account, she’s spoken out several times about her distaste for it. Last year, Aniston told InStyle that she chooses not to participate because she “worries about the damaging effects of social media on young people figuring out their identity.”

But it’s hard being one of the only celebrities without an account. Aniston admitted to Kimmel that she received pressure from everyone to join. And now, with her new Apple+ show, The Morning Show, to promote, it must have seemed like a good time. However, Aniston told Kimmel that she was still “the most reluctant person to ever join Instagram.”

Aniston explained her decision to join the platform: “What you resist, persists, you know?”

But she also made a point to say that she hasn’t let it suck her in. Even with her fake account, it sounds like she hasn’t spent much time looking around. However, Kimmel predicted that it was only a matter of time before it sucked her in.

Jennifer Aniston’s account is breaking records

Aniston’s first post to her new account was an instant fan favorite. She uploaded a recent selfie featuring the cast of Friends, who had gathered for a reunion. It included all of the main actors, including Aniston herself, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc.

The caption read, “And now we’re Instagram FRIENDS too. HI INSTAGRAM,” and featured a waving hand emoji.

After posting the photo, Aniston proved her A-list status when her account grew by outstanding numbers. In fact, she became the fastest person to reach one million followers on Instagram, hitting the number in just five hours and one minute.

The new record even beat out Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who had reached one million followers in five hours and 45 minutes last April.

Jennifer Aniston is focused on future content

Aniston’s account has now reached over 15 million followers and continues to grow. She told Kimmel she’s now focused on building content for her account.

“Making content, baby,” she said. Aniston even hinted at what may be to come.

While researching her role for The Morning Show, Aniston shadowed the crew of Good Morning America. She even had lunch with Diane Sawyer. When Kimmel commented that she should have taken a selfie with the famous journalist to post to Instagram, Aniston hinted that she did take a photo and reiterated that she was in the process of building content.

So far, Aniston has posted her Friends photo, a short video where she tosses her phone and apologizes for breaking the platform, and a two-photo series of herself as a little girl compared with a current photo. Fans are loving her content so far and her followers continue to grow. Now we’ll just have to see if her famous ex, and fellow social media hold-out, Brad Pitt, will join.
