Divorces can be complicated. However, if you’re in the public eye, the demise of your relationship can be excruciating, especially if it involves children. And yet, though they’ve been through some tough times, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck make maintaining a friendly relationship and co-parenting look really easy. The pair married in 2005 and stayed together for ten years until they announced their separation in 2015.
Though their romantic involvement is over, the duo remains close for the sake of their three children. Because of the strong friendship that they built while they were dating and during their marriage, their new normal looks pretty seamless. While Affleck has gotten back on the dating scene and is currently in a relationship with Saturday Night Live producer, Lindsay Shookus, Garner has been focusing on her children and her career.
Even though they’ve moved on at different speeds, there aren’t any bad feelings between the former couple. They still spend major holidays together, and Garner had been a significant support system for Affleck who has struggled with alcohol dependency. After a relapse in September 2017, The Town director released a statement to E! News saying, “I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.”
Since then, Affleck has been on a positive path, and the Alias alum has been a huge reason why his sobriety is now on track. The actress has supported her ex-husband because she wants him to be the best father that he can be. The Batman actor publicly thanked the mother of his children when he talked about his relapse. He revealed, “[She] has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do.”
An insider told People, that Garner’s main concern is that her children are happy and healthy. They revealed, “The kids love when they all spend time together. As long as Ben keeps working on himself, Jen is happy. She will continue to support him because it benefits the kids.”
Now, three years after they announced their separation, Garner and Affleck have continued to remain good friends and put forth a positive example for their children. In fact, the Love, Simon actress posted a short but heartfelt note about her ex-husband on Father’s Day. She posted a picture of Gone Girl actor on her Instagram page. She captioned the photo saying, “Our kids are lucky to have a dad who looks at them the way you look at them and loves them the way you love them.”
For his part, Affleck spent the entire week leading up to Father’s day with his three children. He recently purchased a home not too far away from Garner’s. Photographers have spotted him taking his children to Dunkin Donuts, attending his eldest daughter, Violet’s, elementary school graduation and celebrating with the family at lunch at Ivy at the Shore.
On Father’s Day, Affleck posted the card he received from his babies. It read, “Love you, Dad! You are my superhero.” The Triple Frontier actor captioned the photo saying,”I can think of three incredible reasons why today is so special. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and father figures out there, and to the women that empower them to be the best they can be. We are all so fortunate beyond measure.”
It’s so refreshing to see everyone getting along after a divorce.
