Jennifer Lopez Wore Another Version of Her Iconic Versace Dress in March 2020

When you think of Jennifer Lopez, you may think of a singer, a dancer, or an actress. You may think of her Oscar-snubbed performance in Hustlers, or her 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show. But if you’re like many, you mind will eventually drift to her iconic Versace gown, which is once again making headlines.

Jennifer Lopez made history with her 2000 Grammy Awards dress

It may seem like a lifetime has passed, but in 2000, Lopez was one of the rising stars of the moment. She had made her breakthrough in film with Selena and released her debut album, On the 6, with popular singles “If You Had My Love” and “Waiting for Tonight.”

Then, she made her big move. She attended the 2000 Grammy Awards with her then-boyfriend, Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs. Both were nominated for awards that night, and though neither won, all eyes were on Lopez in her extremely low-cut gown.

Its impact on popular culture

It’s hard to overstate just how much of an impact the dress had on popular culture, and the internet as a whole. At the time, Google Image search didn’t exist. But the constant searches for a photo of the dress helped the company realize that they needed a way to search for a specific image, and thus, it was created.

Though it’s been so many years since its debut, the love for the dress hasn’t died down. Lopez herself has worn a similar print on a few different occasions, including a concert in the Bronx in 2014. And, as you can see above, lots of fans have made their own versions to wear as costumes.

In 2019, as the 20th anniversary of the dress approached, Lopez participated in a Versace fashion show, wearing an even more revealing version of it. According to the multi-talented star, she was approached by Donatella Versace at the Met Gala that year, who asked her to participate.

Just as she had previously, Lopez’s appearance was the hit of the event. But instead of Google Image search, everyone was looking for her — where else? — on Instagram. Lopez posted numerous photo and videos of herself. And she further capitalized on its hype with her December 2019 Saturday Night Live episode.

Her latest version of ‘the dress’

If you thought you’d seen the last of this print, think again. In Jan. 2020, Lopez shared on Instagram that she is the face of the Versace Spring-Summer 2020 campaign. And given the tropical vibes of the print, it only makes sense that it would take center stage in this collection.

Lopez was spotted wearing a casual version of the pantsuit pictured above on March 1, 2020, while in Miami with her family. Her fiancé, Alex Rodriguez, shared a video in his Instagram Story of Lopez, along with their blended family which includes his daughters, Natasha and Ella, and her twins, Max and Emme, with ex-husband Marc Anthony. So the dress lives on.
