Jennifer Lopez: ‘I Think I’m Used to Being the Boss’
Jennifer Lopez has gone from trying to get her voice heard in the Bronx to a superstar, in every sense of the word. Not only does she act, sing, and perform, she also runs her own businesses. Yes, that’s businesses, plural. She has a few irons in the fire, including fragrance, shoes, clothing, and cosmetics lines.
Jennifer Lopez: From the block to the boss
The transition didn’t seem that difficult for Lopez. Fans may be surprised to know running an empire didn’t always come naturally to her. In a recent interview with Variety, J.Lo said it that it was hard reconciling the fact that she’s the boss now with her history.
Coming from a working-class background, Lopez’s family “always had bosses,” so being the boss felt strange at first. Now, Lopez has settled into her role: She’s “used to being the boss.”
Jennifer Lopez has been called a quadruple threat
J. Lo has been called a quadruple threat because she’s an actress, singer, producer, and dancer. That list doesn’t even mention her other accomplishments. She also runs a business empire, and she’s a great mom to her two children: 11-year-old twins Maximilian and Emme.
Her daughter Emme recently turned heads when the two of them sang a duet together at the star’s 50th birthday party. It turns out Emme is a great singer, which makes sense considering she’s the child of Lopez and Marc Anthony.
Lopez may add director to her list of titles soon. She’s interested in directing The Godmother, an upcoming movie she has signed on to star in.
Jennifer Lopez made history at 26
J. Lo made history with one of her first roles. She was the first Latina actress to be paid $1 million for a movie. She starred as Selena in the biopic of the same name. At the time, she says many industry veterans encouraged her to pick singing or acting. She was told it would be impossible to be successful in both fields.
Even though it took J. Lo a while to get used to being the boss, her attitude proves she was one all along. Instead of listening to critics, she went on to be successful in multiple fields, and the list keeps growing.
Her next project, Hustlers, may or may not make history. But for this superstar, it was a lesson in self-confidence. The now 50-year-old Lopez stars as a stripper and will appear on screen doing her character’s routine. Although she was nervous to bare all at first, Lopez thinks the role is a great way to display the complexity of these often overlooked women.
Even a blackout can’t stop Jennifer Lopez
What makes J. Lo so awesome is that she cares deeply about her fans. In July, a blackout caused power to go out at Madison Square Garden right before one of her concerts. She didn’t even want to leave the stage, much less evacuate the arena.
Lopez didn’t want to let her fans down and tried to wait for the power to come back on. When it turned out there wasn’t going to be a concert that night, she was devastated. Even though she had a full schedule, she made time for a makeup concert two days later. She couldn’t stand the thought of disappointing fans, even though her insurance would have paid for a ticket refund.
There’s no arguing that J. Lo is the boss. She’s one of the richest stars out there, and her projects seem to mint money. And she’s made it clear she’s not done. Even though she’s been in the business for a few decades, we can still expect a ton of firsts from her.
