Jennifer Lopez’s Style Transformation Over the Years
Jennifer Lopez has been at the forefront of Hollywood for decades. Somehow, she seems just as young as she did when she first entered the scene. Her skincare and workout routines are surely to thank, but her fashion game definitely helps keep her young.
We’ve seen her style transform over the years, but it’s amazing to see just how far she’s come. From 1996 to now, here’s how J.Lo’s style has only gotten better with age.
15. Throwing it back to the ’90s
Throwing it back to 1996 makes us realize just how beautifully Lopez has aged. She’s rocking that ‘90s style in a structured, light pink jacket and skirt combo. She was only 26 at the time, when she portrayed the title role in Selena.
Here she was attending a press conference, along with co-star Becky Lee Meza and the parents of Selena Quintanilla. Lopez was praised for her portrayal of Selena, who had been tragically killed by her own fan club president, Yolanda Saldívar, one year prior.
Next: She did this 14 years before Kim Kardashian.
14. Breaking the internet before Kim Kardashian
This look is arguably one of the most iconic award show outfits ever. Lopez turned heads and dropped jaws in this green Versace dress at the 2000 Grammy Awards. We still can’t get over its barely-there style, featuring the deepest V possible and a fun, tropical print over sheer material.
Apparently, this dress is the reason why Google Images exists. According to USA Today, “the massive amount of users Googling Lopez’s dress that night inspired Google to create its image library.”
Kim Kardashian may be famous for #BreakingTheInternet, but Lopez actually did it first.
Next: She went all out for the Super Bowl.
13. Glitzy for the Super Bowl
Lopez has never been shy when it comes to fashion. She was clearly feeling festive for the 2001 Super Bowl, and back then, we would have definitely been feeling jealous of her glitzed out denim-and-belt combo.
Her top is somehow even more glamorous, and it gave her the chance to show off her super toned abs.
Next: We’d love to see her wear this outfit again as a throwback.
12. Making a fashion statement
Have you ever seen a more quintessential early-2000s outfit? The tracksuit paired with heels; The one-leg-scrunched-up fashion statement; The pageboy hat — it’s almost too much to process all at once.
She brought this look to the TRL stage back in 2002, and somehow, we still think she’s pulling it off.
Next: Do you remember this look she rocked while engaged to Ben Affleck?
11. Rocking that engagement glow
Ah, the days of Bennifer. Here, Lopez and her former fiancé, Ben Affleck, attended the premiere of Daredevil in 2003. Lopez looks particularly fresh-faced, and we love that she showed off her engagement glow by pinning her hair back in a bun.
The majority of her dress may be black, but the pop of color at the top looks super fun and playful.
Next: She looks fierce in pretty much anything.
10. Proving she can pull off anything
We’re not sure that many people could pull this dress off, but Lopez managed to make it look sleek. The silky, mint colored dress features billowing sleeves and an accordion-style skirt, which definitely made a statement at the 2005 premiere of Monster In Law.
Lopez’s side-swept lob kicks her fashion game up a notch, proving she can literally pull off any hairstyle, too.
Next: This is definitely her color.
9. Stunning in white
Seated with her (now ex) husband, Marc Anthony, at the 2006 NCLR ALMA Awards, Lopez looks as stunning as ever. We would definitely classify this look as timeless, considering we could honestly picture her wearing this today.
White is definitely her color, and we love the deep V paired with her fluttery sleeves. Her hair looks gorgeous being draped behind her neck, giving us a peek at her glamorous drop earrings.
Next: She doesn’t always take fashion too seriously.
8. Having fun with fashion
Remember when we claimed that Lopez could pull off anything? This look just proves that even further. While attending a fashion event in Tokyo in 2009, we can tell she was having fun with her fashion.
If we’re being honest, her oversized jacket mixed with the black and white color scheme is giving us some Cruella de Vil vibes. However, her flowing, highlighted hair with romantic bangs definitely softens up the look.
Next: She went from Cruella de Vil to Marilyn Monroe.
7. Delivering some serious style
As much as Lopez may have fun with fashion, she knows how to deliver some serious style. She’s looking elegant, yet sexy in this deep burgundy dress, which features a very Marilyn Monroe-inspired neckline.
With her romantic waves cascading over her shoulder, statement hoops, and sky-high pumps, she brought her fashion game to Madrid for the 2010 photocall of The Backup Plan.
Next: This wasn’t the only time she rocked this color.
6. Sticking with deep red
Lopez stuck with the deep red color scheme at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party for the 2012 Academy Awards. She looked incredibly sexy in this curve-hugging floor-length dress — and she’s even rocking her signature deep V.
To put the focus on her glamorous dress, Lopez opted for an updo, which fits with the overall structured look of her ensemble.
Next: This outfit makes her look straight-up mysterious.
5. Mysterious in her nature-inspired style
Although Lopez may typically go for deeper necklines, here she looks just as gorgeous in a turtleneck style. The blue, glitzy design seems very nature-inspired, and over a nude material, it gives a mysterious illusion.
She wore this look to the 2014 GLAAD Media Awards with her then-boyfriend, Casper Smart.
Next: She brought this color back out to play.
4. Making white look fierce
Lopez brought her white wardrobe out to play again, which she looks seriously fierce in. We’re loving the cutout style she wore to a 2015 Golden Globes After Party, which was hosted by The Weinstein Company and Netflix.
Her dark, smoky eyes and messy updo only make her look even more fierce, as she continues leaving us stunned that she’s in her 40s.
Next: Age is definitely just a number.
3. Sexy at any age
Lopez never fails to prove that showing some skin can be sexy at any age. She wore this illusion jumpsuit to the 2016 Latin Grammy Awards, and she’s looking glamorous doing it.
Her long, pin straight hair makes the look even more intense, but in a good way.
Next: She looks happier than ever — and her outfit reflects it.
2. Glowing with happiness
Lopez looks happier than ever while posing with her beau, Alex Rodriguez, at NBC’s World of Dance Celebration in September 2017.
The bright hue of her dress definitely seems to be reflecting her happiness, which looks gorgeous paired with black elements.
Next: She started out 2018 strong.
1. Bringing her fashion A-game
Lopez started out 2018 proving she’s still got a fun sense of fashion. While attending a World of Dance event with her co-stars, Derek Hough, Jenna Dewan Tatum, and Ne-Yo, each one is bringing their fashion A-game.
Even though Lopez’s little white dress looks like more of a costume, she makes it glamorous with her cascading hair and peachy makeup tones. If this look is a sign of the style she’s bringing to 2018, we’re excited to see what she wears next.
