The quiz show overhauled the set to keep everyone safe before filming began on Jeopardy! Season 37. Jeopardy! gave fans a look at the changes in a YouTube video ahead of the season premiere.

No live studio audience is present to watch Jeopardy! contestants during games. Players now stand at separated podiums and there’s a socially distanced judges’ table. As for the audition process, try-outs for Jeopardy! are now being held virtually on Zoom instead of in-person.

Alex Trebek stumped ‘Jeopardy!’ contestants with a piece of golf trivia

On the episode of the game show that aired on September 25, 2020, all three contestants were stumped by the night’s Final Jeopardy! question.

Trebek read the following to the players: “On Forbes’ 2020 list of the 100 highest-paid athletes, at age 50 this active individual sportsman is the oldest.”

After answering the question and making their final wagers the contestants’ answers were revealed. They replied with “Who is Jagr,” “Who is Phil n,” and “Who is Mr. Magoo.”

The correct answer to the clue? Phil Mickelson.

Contestant Julissa got the golfer’s first name right narrowly losing first place, according to The Loop. Ultimately, it was contestant Sameer who won. He clenched first place with his “Mr. Magoo” response because he wagered nothing.

The pro golfer laughed off the moment on Twitter

“Just when I think I’ve arrived (I was the answer to tonight’s final Jeopardy question) I realize I still have a ways to go (they all got it wrong ),” he said on September 25, 2020, shortly after the Jeopardy! episode aired.

Alex Trebek’s stumped ‘Jeopardy!’ contestants with sports trivia before

Historically, Jeopardy! contestants don’t do well when Trebek dishes out sports clues. The longtime host stumped contestants during another Jeopardy! episode when the game board featured football as a category appropriately titled “Talkin’ Football.”

The contestants didn’t answer one single question correctly in the category all about football terminology.

Trebek teased the players using his “You’ve disappointed daddy” tone of voice to scold them for not knowing the answer to any of the clues. Their lackluster performance led to Trebek dumbing down the category in later Jeopardy! episodes.
