‘Jersey Shore’: How Did Ronnie Ortiz-Magro’s Daughter Save His Life?

Jersey Shore first aired a decade ago in 2009, and showed the world what the life of a Guido supposedly looked like. Since then, the original show has had several spin-offs, all of which were on the same general note as the first.

No matter if people loved it or hated it, the cast was a train wreck you just couldn’t look away from. But, over time, the cast did grow and change. Even Snooki turned into the mom nobody thought she could be. But a baby didn’t only save Snooki, because Ronnie Ortiz-Magro also claims his daughter saved his.

Ortiz-Magro’s alcohol problem

Ortiz-Magro spoke to US Weekly about just how bad his drinking problem had gotten before he realized he needed help. The Jersey Shore star stated he would drink until he was “numb” and that he knew he “had no control over it.” He also went on to state that “I was in a place of depression, and with depression I turned to alcohol … I was sitting there blaming everything else; I was like the victim, and I’m not a victim to life.”

These issues with drinking come after back-to-back abusive relationships. First, with Sammi – a previous Jersey Shore costar. Then, with Jenn Harley, who is the mother of his ten-month-old daughter.

How his daughter saved his life

Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Jenn Harley have a ten-month-old daughter together named Ariana Sky Magro… and that little girl just saved her daddy’s life, according to him.

When asked about why he finally decided to go to rehab, Ortiz-Magro was quick to put most of the praise on his daughter. “If I’m not taking care of myself, I can’t take care of my daughter. I can’t take care of my family… That little girl is like my guardian angel. I say to this day, she saved my life. I think, without her, I don’t think I would’ve taken this step, because what would I have to lose?”

That wasn’t all the reality television star had to say, either. Ortiz-Magro went on to say “I’m a father. I’m a role model. I have to remember that.” He then went on to say that one day he’ll share his experience with Ariana, in the hopes that she avoids the mistakes he’s made.

Mike “The Situation” helped

Mike “The Situation” is another well-known cast member from The Jersey Shore, and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro says he had something to do with his entering rehab, also. Mike has been sober for two years, but he needed to have his own stint in rehab to get there.

Watching Mike’s new dedication to living a healthy lifestyle, and his upbeat, positive attitude proved to be an inspiration to Ortiz-Magro. Mike’s friendship was also incredibly helpful. Ronnie Ortiz-Magro has even gone on to call Mike “The Inspiration.” “When you were the way I was — just depressed and always angry and resentful and regretful,” Ortiz-Magro said, “you look at him, and you’re like, ‘I want that. I want to be positive.'”

Ronnie Ortiz-Magro has taken the first very big step in cleaning up his life, but he knows that more change is necessary if he wants to stay sober and live a clean, healthy lifestyle. One of those steps is moving out of Las Vegas, where the reality TV star says he doesn’t get the structure he feels he needs. He’s relocating, instead, to Los Angeles.

The star will also need to work on his on-again/off-again relationship with Ariana’s mother, Jenn Hurley. If the two can’t make it work out, they’ll have to at least learn to be nice to one another for their daughter’s sake.
