Jill Duggar Set Up ‘Kids Church’ in Her House For Her Sons While They’re Home Sick
This season of Counting On is giving us a ton of insight into the Duggar family’s lives, but there’s one family member we don’t expect to see on the TLC network ever again — and that’s Jill Duggar. While Jill used to be featured on TV alongside Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s other 18 children, Jill’s husband, Derick Dillard, got his family kicked off the show due to transphobic tweets. Jill and Derick have been maintaining a hefty social media following since then to update their fans with what’s going on in their lives.
While Jill and Derick do a decent job of keeping their followers up to date, fans still scratch their heads at what they’re posting. And recently, Jill posted to Instagram about the “kids church” she created for her two sons in her home. Here’s what she’s up to and why.
The Duggars are known for being ultra-religious
There’s a reason the Duggars have been on television for over a decade — and that’s because viewers continue to be invested in their everyday lives. And we can’t forget that the obsession initially started with Jim Bob and Michelle. The couple had 19 children over the years (though they tried for even more), and they kept seriously strict rules in their home due to religious reasons. And fans often recall the Duggar kids discussing courtship rules and their dress codes enforced by Jim Bob and Michelle.
So, what religion are the Duggars? While many assume they’re part of the Quiverfull movement, Michelle and Jim Bob have denied any involvement there. Instead, they stand firm that they’re devout independent Baptists, which is a strict sect of Christianity. Due to their devotion to God, the Duggar women grew up wearing long skirts and always covering their shoulders, and they also don’t believe in kissing or touching their potential spouses prior to marriage.
Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard frequently speak about their religious beliefs
We have yet to see any of the Duggar kids shy away from the religious ways they grew up with. And Jill and Derick have definitely embraced their Christian lifestyle. We can’t forget that before courting Jill, Jim Bob thought Derick would be the perfect match for his daughter due to his involvement in the church and missionary work. And Us Weekly notes Derick said he was “praying about Jill and asking God for direction in getting to know Jill better” before he proposed.
Now, Jill and Derick are just as involved in church life as ever. And the parents are working hard to instill their Christian values in their two sons, Samuel and Israel. It seems they are allowing their kids to be slightly more in-tune with the outside world than Jim Bob and Michelle allowed, however. Derick has already stated he’d allow his kids to go to public school even though Jill’s homeschooling them now. And Jill and Derick also allowed their sons to dress up for Halloween, which some members of the Christian community took issue with.
Jill just showed her followers the ‘kids church’ she set up for her sons
Just because Jill can’t get to church doesn’t mean she gives up on watching the service with her family. Recently, she took to her Instagram Story to show her and Derick sitting around a laptop while they watched the church service they couldn’t attend due to Samuel and Israel being sick. And Jill also shared a video of her sons sitting around their own laptop watching a missionary movie. “Singing amazing grace … and the boys are in their own ‘kids church’ watching a missionary movie,” Jill captioned her Story.
It shouldn’t be too surprising to hear that Jill and Derick are encouraging their sons to take part in religious activities even when they’re sick, as we’re sure their parents would have done the same for them. And while this is the first time we’ve heard of “kids church,” we’ll have to wait and see if it makes another reappearance in the Dillard household!
