Jill Duggar’s Husband, Derick Dillard, Called Out a Follower Who Said His Kids Will Never Go to College

Duggar fans are anxiously awaiting the return of TLC’s Counting On, as we can’t wait to see what a few favorites, like Jana, Jessa, and Jill, are up to. There are a few Duggars we won’t be seeing on the show this upcoming season, however. And Jill Duggar is one of them. Jill’s controversial husband, Derick Dillard, once published homophobic and transphobic tweets that didn’t sit well with TLC, and for that reason, the couple now relies on social media to share their daily lives with their followers.

Recently, Jill and Derick have been hinting that they may allow their two children, Samuel and Israel, to attend college one day. And when one follower told Derick his kids would never go to university, the famous father subtly called them out. Here’s the exchange.

The Duggars are notorious for homeschooling their children

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar shared the rules they instilled upon their 19 kids back on 19 Kids and Counting. From dating to their dress code to rules against listening to modern music and dancing, the Duggars became known for their odd way of living. And once fans learned that the Duggar kids were also homeschooled, this lent itself to even more speculation.

According to In Touch Weekly, the family utilized a program called ATI, or Advanced Training Institute. The program is rooted in religion and aims to teach children how to “impact the world for Jesus Christ.” Jill Duggar has never discussed ATI, but she does often post her own homeschooling tactics she uses for her older son, Israel. Recently, she posted videos of Israel working on math using the Math-U-See program.

Derick Dillard said he’d allow his kids to go to public school

While Jill was homeschooled her entire life, Derick Dillard was not. We know Derick is currently in his second year of law school, and to celebrate this milestone, he added a photo to Instagram of him and Jill with the caption, “First day of school #21 is in the books! (19 years in public school & 2 in seminary).” On this post, a follower asked, “Would you ever allow any of your kids to attend public schools?” To this, Derick simply replied with, “yes.”

This isn’t the first time public school or college has been brought up to Jill or Derick, either. Another follower asked Derick on Twitter, “Will your boys ever get the chance to go to college?” And to that, Derick answered, “Absolutely!” And Jill has even commented on the possibility of her kids attending public school. In Touch Weekly notes one of Jill’s followers asked her on Instagram, “[I]f your boys request to go to public school, will you let them?” To that, she answered, “[M]aybe. Probably will at some point for college.”

Derick clapped back at a follower who commented on college

Despite Jill and Derick answering comments and questions regarding their kids’ schooling before, others have taken to Instagram to repeat the same queries. Derick added this Instagram photo of Israel hanging out with Pistol Pete, the mascot for Oklahoma State University, and a fan asked, “Oh wow! Will your kids attend college?” To that, Derick replied with, “Probably” — but it was another fan comment that had the famous Duggar-in-law clapping back. Another follower commented, “Sadly, that won’t happen.” And Derick replied with, “true, it may not happen if he ends up being an Arkansas Razorback instead. I guess that would be ok… as long as he’s not a sooner lol.”

Derick’s well-timed comment was the perfect clap back to the negative follower. Unfortunately for Jill and Derick, they’re frequently critiqued by Duggar followers, so this is far from the last time they’ll get trolled on Instagram. Perhaps we’ll learn more about Jill’s homeschooling curriculum or Derick’s plans for his kids’ future in yet another post!
