Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik Announce a New Show Ahead of the Emmy Awards

The 2019 Emmy Awards are set to go live on Sunday, Sept. 22. While there will be plenty of big stars in attendance and a fair number of television’s best and brightest taking home awards, you’ll notice that the guys and girls from The Big Bang Theory won’t be on stage. The series ended its 12th and final season back in May and won’t be eligible for future awards. While the team behind the famed show didn’t receive recognition at the Emmys, that doesn’t mean there isn’t big news to share. In fact, Jim Parson and Mayim Bialik just announced they’ll be teaming up again, and perhaps, this time they’ll take home more than a few Emmy statues.

The Big Bang Theory didn’t get the Emmy recognition people thought it deserved

Jim Parsons has collected four Emmys for his work in The Big Bang Theory. His portrayal of the quirky and rigid, Sheldon Cooper, is considered one of the main highlights of the famed show’s 12-year run. While he’s been acknowledged for his work in the past, the Television Academy didn’t see it fitting to add a fifth award to his list of accolades.

Parsons was not the only person from the cast snubbed at the 2019 Emmy Awards. In fact, the show came up mostly empty for its farewell season. Nominated in just three categories, The Big Bang Theory actors were left out of all major categories. Fans were incensed by the absence of their favorite science nerds from the nominee list.

Mayim Bialik, who has been nominated several times for her role as Amy Farrah Fowler also didn’t appear in the list of nominees, nor did Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco. Galecki has only received one Primetime Emmy nomination for his role as Leonard in the famed series. Cuoco has never been nominated for her portrayal of Penny.

The wild popularity of the show drew in 55 Emmy nominations over the years, but yet, the wins didn’t come. The show collected just ten statues. Emmy awards or not, no one would argue that The Big Bang Theory wasn’t wildly successful. Now, Bialik and Parsons are looking to hit comedy gold again in a new show.

Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik’s new show

Parsons and Bialik have officially announced their attachment to a new comedy series for Fox. According to Variety, Parsons, and Bialik are both attached to the project as executive producers. Bialik is also set to star in the series.

The comedy series, titled Carla, is based on the BBC hit, Miranda. Miranda ran from 2009 to 2013 and centered around the title character’s social stumbles, and business falters. Carla will revolve around Bialik’s character working her way through awkward social situations after she uses money set aside by her mother for a wedding to open a cat café.

While Parsons is attached to the project as a producer, it is not known if he’ll star in the show, too. The announcement comes after a lengthy network war over the rights to the show. Parsons and Bialik were previously attached to CBS for The Big Bang Theory.

What are the other stars of The Big Bang Theory doing now?

Parsons and Bialik’s fate is all tied up with the announcement of Carla but where are the other stars of the show and what will they be doing moving forward? While they may not have received Emmy recognition, each of the main characters from the famed series has other projects in the works.

Galecki, who is anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first child, will allegedly be returning to The Connors as a guest star. According to E! News, Galecki is interested in taking a bit of time off as a series regular right now. Kaley Cuoco, who played Galecki’s, on-screen love, will be trying her hand at dark comedy. Cuoco is set to star in an HBO Max series called The Flight Attendant, according to IMDB.

Kunal Nayyar, whose portrayal of the painfully shy, Raj, has been trying his hand at voice acting. His most recent project, Trolls: World Tour is in post-production. Simon Halberg, who played Howard on the hit series, is working on stage productions while Melissa Rauch, who played Bernadette, has released a children’s book.
