Jinger Duggar Explained She Was Once ‘In Rebellion’ to God and Religion

We’ve been following the Duggars for over a decade, and many have developed favoritism toward some members of the family over the years based on what we’ve seen on reality TV. Nowadays, many of the 21 Duggars are featured on TLC’s Counting On — and Jinger Duggar has attained quite the following. Fans adore her and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, as they seem the most willing to go out on a limb and follow their own dreams despite what Jinger’s rigid parents, Michelle and Jim Bob, may think.

All of the Duggars are ultra-religious, as that’s how they were raised. But Jinger admitted that she was once rebellious to religion. Here’s what she wrote.

Jinger has always been known as the rebellious Duggar

Ever since the early days of 19 Kids and Counting, fans have long suspected that Jinger would be the one to break free from the family and go her own way. We can’t forget that she’s broken many Duggar rules in the past, too — especially when it comes to her courtship with Jeremy Vuolo. When Jinger and Jeremy got engaged, they gave each other a lingering full-frontal hug, which is completely against Duggar code. And many wondered where Jinger’s relationship with her parents and family stood when she announced she was moving to Los Angeles, too.

There’s also some evidence to suggest that Jim Bob thinks Jeremy’s a bit too liberal for his liking — and Jeremy’s forward-thinking ways may also be influencing Jinger. Radar Online notes Jeremy’s brother directed a movie about a transgender immigrant once — and Jinger commented her support on Instagram by writing, “Wow. So amazing bro.” Given her ultra-conservative background, there’s no doubt her parents wouldn’t approve of this.

She once admitted she was ‘in rebellion’ to religion

Jinger and Jeremy have a personal blog that they tend to get candid on — and they each wrote personal testimonies about their relationships with God. Jinger noted she was always a good kid, but “even though I appeared ‘good,’ I was personally guilty before a holy God because, in my heart, I was in rebellion against Him.” She went on to mention that she certainly believed in God, but she was “seeking and pursuing” her “own glory,” which put her at odds with her Christian upbringing.

Jinger then notes that while she may have turned her back against Christ, she had a moment of clarity when everything came into perspective. “Though I had turned away from God like the rest of humanity, God the Father looked with compassion upon me and made a way for me to be saved from my sin of rebellious idolatry,” she continued on the blog. Jinger then noted that she “cried out to God” for the forgiveness of her rebellious, vain way of living. “Since that time I have enjoyed sweet fellowship with my God and Savior and would not trade my salvation for anything this world could offer,” she added.

Her husband, Jeremy, also mentioned his faith has been tested in the past

The major reason Jeremy and Jinger are moving to Los Angeles is so Jeremy can attend graduate school for his career as a preacher. And while Jeremy is certainly a man of God and eventually got Jim Bob’s approval to marry Jinger, he’s had quite the past. He was arrested back in 2008 for harassing a police officer while intoxicated, and he’s also noted he had quite a wild time during his college years. “Although I am very grateful for how much the Lord’s mercy spared me from during that time, I was part of the college party scene and was not living wisely,” he wrote on the blog.

Jeremy then went on to write that he soon became “fed up” with his sinful ways and no longer wanted to be part of the party scene. “Over the next several years, I continued to battle against sin and still do to this day! But I have hope in this life: not in myself and my own performance and perfection, but in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross and His death in my place,” he added.

We’re sure Jinger and Jeremy will raise their daughter, Felicity, to be deeply involved in her faith as well. But if she veers off the path, they may also be more forgiving and understanding than the other Duggars.
