‘Counting On’: Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo Are Making Sure Their Daughter Isn’t Raised the Way Duggar Was

Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo are doing life the way they want to do it. As most know, Duggar was raised in an extremely strict household, but once she married Vuolo, she was whisked off to Laredo, Texas (and now Los Angeles, California), where she started to live life more on her own terms. The two share one daughter, Felicity, and she’s become the center of their world. But all the photographs and memories only prove that Duggar doesn’t want her daughter to grow up the way she did.

Duggar was raised in an extremely strict household

Growing up, Duggar had to follow some serious rules, most of which the average American would never understand. Duggar’s parents, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, raised their children in an extremely religious household. The kids were homeschooled and only associated with other kids from their church or religious work. The Duggars were never allowed to involve themselves in activities that didn’t benefit their relationship with God in some way. They weren’t allowed to dance or swim because both things could lead to promiscuity. The kids couldn’t date, either; they could only enter courtships with the intention of getting married.

Vuolo brought a breath of fresh air to Duggar’s life

Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald introduced Duggar to her husband after they met him at a religious gathering when they were visiting Texas. He wasn’t hand-picked by Jim Bob Duggar (as many fans suspect is the norm among the Duggar couples), but he won Jim Bob’s heart and was allowed to marry Duggar. The two only courted for about a month before getting engaged. Once they wed, Duggar and Vuolo moved to Texas, where he was a pastor, and started living life more on their own terms. Duggar began wearing pants and tank tops, and they attended various sporting events and town events that didn’t have a religious base.

The couple has raised their daughter to experience new adventures, such as swimming and sporting events

Fans have been able to watch Duggar and Vuolo’s daughter, Felicity, grow up over the past 14 months. And in that time, Duggar has opened Felicity’s eyes to many exciting adventures. The little family attends soccer games together frequently, and Duggar even made a comment that Felicity will be allowed to play sports. The couple has also taken their daughter swimming, which is something Duggar never learned to do because the Duggar children weren’t allowed to walk around in bathing suits. The family has also taken Felicity to explore various new neighborhoods and cuisines near their Los Angeles home.

It’s clear they’re doing their best to not keep her sheltered

Duggar and Vuolo have made it clear that they are raising Felicity to be more in tune with the world than Duggar ever was. While the couple remains very religious (Vuolo is a pastor, after all), they seem to be providing Felicity with a healthy mix of religious and non-religious activities. It looks like they want to make sure she is raised differently from her mother and experiences plenty of new adventures. It seems they’ll allow her to play sports and go to the beach, among other fun things all children should experience.
