Lately, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift has been making many more appearances than in year’s past. She went on The Voice, she’s done a lot of promotion for her new album, Lover, and there’s likely to be more in the coming months for Cats. Here’s how her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, helped her with another recent TV gig.
Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have been together for years
OK, here’s what you need to know about this very private couple. Swift and Alwyn met, according to what we can glean from her music, in the first half of 2016, likely at the Met Gala. At the time, she was dating Calvin Harris, and then, for a short time, Tom Hiddleston.
Alwyn and Swift began to see each other sometime during that summer, but things didn’t get serious until the fall. This is now Swift’s longest relationship, as the two recently celebrated what we believe to be their three-year anniversary. However, both refuse to speak publicly about the other.
Alwyn starred in ‘The Favourite’ with Olivia Colman
Obviously, if you’re reading this, you know who Swift is: An extremely accomplished musician who has dabbled in acting a bit. But Alwyn isn’t quite as famous as his girlfriend. However, the British actor has been getting a lot of attention lately for a few notable roles.
Among them is his turn in The Favourite, which was up for numerous Academy Awards and BAFTAs this year. The film also stars Nicholas Hoult, Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, and Olivia Colman, the latter three of whom were nominated for their roles.
Swift surprised ‘Broadchurch’ actor Shaun Dooley
We tell you all of that about Alwyn because it relates to this latest bit of news. A clip from BBC One released earlier this month sees Swift showing up in a recording studio to surprise actor Shaun Dooley as he sings her song “Never Grow Up” from her third album, Speak Now.
Dooley is doing this for Children In Need: Got It Covered, a behind-the-scenes look at a project in which multiple British celebrities cover popular songs for an album that will benefit the charity question. The actor shared a brief ad, about which he wrote, “So the Uber talented, incredibly gracious, genuinely beautiful and wonderful @taylorswift13 surprised me @AbbeyRoad What a day!”
Listen to what she says at the very end of the clip
Another important bit of information. Dooley, who starred in, among other things, the crime drama Broadchurch, is a producer on the album. Working alongside him is Colman, with whom he co-starred on the series. And as it turns out, she helped to arrange the whole surprise.
When Swift meets Dooley in the recording studio, she tells him how much it means to her that he’s covering such an emotional song of hers. Dooley asks, “How did they get you?” to which Swift replies, “Olivia texted!” She then adds, “Well, she texted my boyfriend.” Though she doesn’t mention him by name, this is about as close to Alwyn name-drop as we’ve ever gotten from Swift, which is pretty cool.
