John Gosselin Slams ‘Narcissistic,’ Fame-Hungry Ex-Wife Kate on Dr. Oz Show Appearance
There’s not a lot of love left between Jon and Kate Gosselin. These two former TLC reality stars rose to fame over a decade ago with their hit show, Jon & Kate Plus 8. Fans were captivated as the couple navigated the challenges of raising one of the world’s few surviving sets of sextuplets.
But even as the Gosselins became household names, fans started noticing an underlying tension between Jon and Kate that seemed to run deeper than just normal parenting stress. It wasn’t too surprising when this pair announced their intention to divorce in January 2009.
Details of the split have been kept secret thanks to a 10-year gag order handed down from the courts. But now that the time is up, Jon Gosselin is speaking freely about what went wrong in his marriage — and how Kate may have let fame cloud her judgment.
Jon believes Kate may have a personality disorder
Jon Gosselin revealed his true opinions about his ex-wife Kate during a recent appearance on the Dr. Oz Show. When asked if he thought his marriage would have survived without the intrusion of television cameras, Jon admits that it probably “would have fizzled out anyway” because of their incompatible personalities. More specifically, he thinks Kate has narcissistic personality disorder.
“I think she tends to think more on her level selfishly instead for others,” Jon told Dr. Oz. “I think I tend to think sometimes more for others than for myself, so I tend to not worry what’s going on with me when I should sometimes.”
He claims fame changed everything
Though Jon admitted that Kate had good intentions when she agreed to participate in Jon & Kate Plus 8, ultimately the money and fame changed her perspective and eventually, it even changed her personality.
“I believe that her belief system is skewed,” Jon said. “That’s what I believe. I believe her intentions in the beginning were good intentions. Bringing kids into the world that she fought to have these kids. But I think once fame and money got involved, it twisted her belief system.”
Jon explained that he’d rather not have his kids on televion anymore. “On my end, I’ve been fighting to get my kids off TV forever,” he said.
Jon said he has no money, but he does have his dignity
Jon also said that breaking his contract with TLC “bankrupted” him.
“I’ve spent 1.7 million in lawyer fees, from when TLC sued me and my divorce. Kate, on the other hand, TLC paid for her attorneys in the lawsuit and for her divorce. So I financed it by myself and she was financed by the network,” he told Dr. Oz.
“I didn’t understand at first why. But now I understand why. All she wanted was legal custody to film my kids to sustain her lifestyle and their lifestyle. See, it gets all warped. That’s fame now, see? It just twists things around.”
Jon is moving forward with his life
These days, Jon Gosselin lives with his girlfriend Colleen Conrad and two of his eight children. But even though he’s happy with his current life, he’s not planning on getting married again. “We just look at each other like ‘Eh.’ Because we’re both divorced so… Is there a point? We love each other,” Gosselin said of getting remarried. “We’re committed to each other.”
We hope both he and Kate can make peace with each other and move on.
