John Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds to Team up in ‘Imaginary Friends’

John Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds will be taking their real-life friendship to the big screen, according to reports. The two pals are set to work together on a fantasy-comedy film called Imaginary Friends, and the internet is obsessed with the ide and the pair appearing in a movie together. Reynolds and Krasinski are both admittedly busy. Both have a ton of projects in the pipeline, and Reynolds just quietly welcomed his third child with his wife, Blake Lively.

What is Imaginary Friends about?

Imaginary Friends is an upcoming comedy movie that will center around a man who can see and communicate with the imaginary friends of other people. Reynolds will be playing the lead role in the flick. According to early reports, Reynolds will befriend the discarded imaginary friends that walk the earth, and, in some cases, pull them back from the grips of evil.

From the sounds of the plot, Reynolds and Krasinski will weave in fantasy, action and comedy elements into the film. It makes sense, Reynolds has a background in action-packed flicks thanks to his portrayal of Wade Wilson in Deadpool. Krasinski got his start in the entertainment industry with his work on the much-beloved comedy, The Office. He has since moved into more serious titles with The Quiet Place.

This isn’t the first time an imaginary friend will be featured in a movie. The 1991 fantasy drama, Drop Dead Fred, followed the reintroduction of a long-since forgotten imaginary friend and the mayhem that ensues because of his existence. The flick became a cult classic.

What role will John Krasinski play in the flick?

Imaginary Friends is the most recent project in a long line of projects associated with Krasinski. The Office alum has signed a deal with Amazon Studios and is also working on the sequel to his critically acclaimed horror flick, The Quiet Place, according to Deadline.

When it comes to Imaginary Friends, Krasinski is officially signed on to write, direct and star in the film alongside Reynolds. What acting role he’ll be taking on, and how significant that role will be, remains unknown. What we do know is that Reynolds will get lead actor credit for the much-anticipated film.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that a bidding war broke out over the project in recent weeks, with Paramount coming out victorious. Sony and Lionsgate were allegedly both very interested in the project. The specifics of the deal remain unknown, and the film doesn’t yet have a set release date.

Ryan Reynolds has additional projects in the pipeline, too

Krasinski isn’t the only actor associated with the film who will be super busy in the upcoming year. Reynolds recently signed a deal to star in a musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol. Reynolds and Will Ferrell will be working on the project together. He is also currently filming The Croods 2, for which he is lending his voice.

Reynolds will also be reprising his role as Wade Wilson in Deadpool 3 and X-Force. Both flicks have been announced, but do not have set production dates. All of that is in addition to his role in the upcoming Clue movie. Clue is currently in pre-production status, according to IMDB.
