John Legend is denying a report that he is seeking out of shape actors to play Donald Trump supporters in a new video.
TMZ reported on Sunday that Legend is shooting a new video that features a group of Trump supporters and Black Lives Matter activists. A listing on Casting Networks notes that for the actors playing the Trump supporters, they are seeking eight white men and women between 30 and 65 years old who are “preferably out of shape.” The casting call reportedly provided a photo of some out of shape Trump supporters for reference.
On Monday, John Legend responded to the report from TMZ. He said on Twitter that he is indeed shooting a video that features a political scene in it, but he denies that the casting call came from him or his team.
“I still think Trump is awful and whoever voted for him did a disservice to the country,” Legend said. “But I didn’t issue this casting call…Oh, and both sides of the political spectrum have their share of Americans of all shapes and sizes!”
It remains to be seen what song John Legend will be shooting a video for this week. While TMZ’s original report stated that the shoot will take place on Friday, Legend says on Twitter that it will happen on Tuesday.
Legend has been quite outspoken in his political beliefs, frequently speaking out against President Trump on his social media accounts. In a new interview with The Guardian, Legend said that Trump is a liar, that he is corrupt, and that he encourages violence. He also responded to those who say that he shouldn’t talk about politics so much and should just stick to music.
“It feels like a natural conversation,” Legend said. “When I talk about politics on Twitter, when I Instagram my daughter, these are just the things I’m thinking about and the things I care about.”
