We’ve been following the Duggars for years thanks to shows like 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On. And while the focus used to be on Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar’s large household, their kids are growing up fast — and some of the middle children we used to rarely hear about are now getting tons of attention.
Joy-Anna Duggar and her husband, Austin Forsyth, have their own Instagram and draw plenty of followers in with their content. But just like the other Duggars, they’re certainly not immune to fan criticism, especially when it comes to their parenting choices. Here’s why they were just slammed for giving their young son coffee.
Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth have 1 child
She may only be 21 years old, but Joy-Anna Duggar and her 25-year-old husband, Austin Forsyth, are quite established for their age. These two are known for flipping homes for extra cash aside from what they make on TLC’s Counting On, and their new mobile home has caused plenty of talk around the internet. Aside from Joy-Anna and her husband’s relationship, her followers are also quite interested in their child, Gideon, and their plans for family expansion.
Gideon is just a year old, and Joy-Anna and Austin had plans for another child. Sadly, Joy-Anna miscarried after 20 weeks. “Although we don’t understand why, God has given us unexplainable peace and comfort during this very difficult time. Yes, it still hurts and we have cried countless tears, but we know that we can trust the Lord. In the words of King David after the loss of his baby, ‘I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me’ (2 Sam 12:23),” Joy-Anna and Austin captioned this Instagram post of the two of them in the hospital after the loss.
Fans freaked out that Joy-Anna Duggar gave her son coffee
After the miscarriage, Joy-Anna and Austin’s followers were ultra-supportive of the couple. And Joy-Anna has appeared to be moving forward the best she can by keeping herself busy with her new home and young son. Unfortunately, a recent Instagram post seemed to miss the mark with her followers. Joy-Anna added this photo of her son drinking iced coffee. “A little coffee to get him through the day. Or maybe not… he already has more energy than I can keep up with,” she captioned the post.
While many of her followers didn’t seem to mind that a toddler was drinking coffee, others took great offense. “Cute shot but you don’t give a one year old coffee or pop (soda),” a follower noted. Another wrote, “He is to young for Coffee.” Yet another added, “You should not give him coffee but so cute.”
This isn’t the first time fans were up in arms regarding what the Duggar children drink
The Duggars are bound to be used to fan criticism for their parenting by now. And we can’t forget that Jessa was also critiqued for alluding that she allows one of her young children to drink soda. This Instagram post from July 2018 shows Jessa’s son, Henry, drinking sparkling water from a sippy cup — and in the caption, the mom subtly hints that Henry’s had orange soda before. “Pretty much the exact same reaction I had to La Croix the first time I tried it. ‘Ok, I’ll try it, but just give me a tiny bit! Wow…definitely not Fanta. Not too bad though. Let me have another sip,'” she jokingly narrated the event.
Unfortunately, fans were up in arms with the Fanta comment. “Please tell me you don’t give him Fanta,” In Touch Weekly notes one follower wrote. To that, Jessa sarcastically responded, “No, he prefers coffee and energy drinks. And of course I’m joking. He only drinks breast milk and water.”
Perhaps Joy-Anna will take on some of the sass Jessa claps back with when her followers get critical!
