Justin Hartley of ‘This Is Us’ Says the Show is ‘Really Remarkable’

Justin Hartley is one of the “big three” in NBCs hit drama This is Us.  If you’re unfamiliar with the popular drama, it follows the story of an interesting set of triplets as they navigate the everyday drama of life with those whom we love the most, our family.

Hartley’s character Kevin Pearson plays a vital role in the series’ success but credits the show’s popularity to its stellar script and writers.

Hartley’s career really began in 2002 when he landed a recurring role on the daytime soap Passions which he worked on until 2006. After that, he can be seen on various projects with the CW including several seasons of Smallville.

In 2016, Hartley was nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards for his work on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless. That same year, he accepted a spot in the cast of NBC’s fall premiere of This is Us.

Now in its 4th season, This is Us has been home for Justin Hartley since its very first episode.  He stars as Kevin Pearson,  “Number One” of the three triplets to be born of Jack and Rebecca.

Kevin is a struggling actor, recovering addict, and the show’s resident heartthrob. But, the story isn’t strictly about him, but rather how his life is intertwined with those of his siblings and parents.

This is Us is “really remarkable”

When asked how the transition has been between day time heart throb to prime time TV star, Hartley doesn’t beat around the bush. He tells interviewers what a great experience it has been. But, he reveals, its not just about being popular. The best part, for him, has been working on this specific show.

“The cool thing about this show, and what’s so fun about being a part of it and working with all these folks,” Hartley explains, “is what happens on a weekly basis for us. Honestly, every time I open up a script, it really is remarkable.”

Many members of the cast have made similar remarks about the content of the show’s writing. Not only do viewers tune in week after week because we have grown to love the characters, but we are watching because the show is such a cunning depiction of real life.

“It’s a testament to the writing, obviously. I think every time I will open up a script, not only my character but all of the characters, the interactions, like, the choices that they’re making, sort of like how brave the characters become, it’s all from week to week. It’s remarkable.”

Hartley praises the life-like conditions and situations his character has had to face since the show began airing.

Justin Hartley knows how lucky he is

In the same interview with Soap Opera Digest, Hartley recognizes that being a part of This is Us has been a really fortunate swing of luck.

Not only does he think that the writing is remarkable, but working with the cast has been fun for him too. He notes that the script itself is such a great reflection of life.  “It’s crazy,” he says. “You just never know what’s going to happen. We’re lucky.”

According to show creators, there will be at least two more seasons of This is Us in store for fans who consider themselves lucky as well.
