Kanye West Defends Calling Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala Dress ‘Too Sexy’ on ‘KUWTK’
Kim Kardashian made a splash when she graced the 2019 Met Gala in a waist-cinching skintight dress. It was a head-turning design for sure, and one which Kardashian suffered some pain to pull off. While she loved her look, it turns out her husband, Kanye West, wasn’t such a big fan — and he let her know how it was “too sexy,” which didn’t go over well. Now he’s defending his comments.
West thought Kardashian’s look wasn’t appropriate
On the October 13 episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, viewers got an inside look at a fight that broke out between the couple about her fashion choice for the Met Gala.
West explained to Kardashian: “I just made this transition from being a rapper, looking at all these girls, looking at my wife, like, ‘Oh, my girl needs to be like the other girls, showing her body off. I didn’t realize that that was affecting my soul and my spirit as someone that’s married and loved, and the father of now, what… about to be four kids.”
He continued: “A corset is like a form of underwear. It’s hot. It’s like, it’s hot for who, though?”
Kardashian said his comments gave her “anxiety”
Kardashian was stunned by his comment, but stood firm, shutting him down by stating: “So the night before the Met you’re going to come in here and say that you’re not into a corset vibe? You’re giving me really bad anxiety. You knew last night I had really bad anxiety and I don’t need any more negative energy and for you say you’re now not into me wearing a tight dress.”
West responded: “You are my wife and it affects me when pictures are too sexy.”
Kardashian was quick to point out that West shouldn’t be thinking this way, noting: “You built me up to be this sexy person and confidence and all this stuff, and just because you’re on a journey and transformation doesn’t mean I’m in the same spot with you.”
West didn’t have much to say in his defense, saying, “Okay, alright. Okay, alright cool” and then walked out of the room.
West defends his statement
During an interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe on Apple Music, West stood by his statement, telling the host: “I suffer and I appreciate the suffering because we can feel a little bit of what Jesus experienced, but I suffer on social media. There are other married men that I know are happy to hear me say that.”
He defended his statement about Kardashian’s dress, noting: “Social media prompts women, in particular, to put out content that they wouldn’t in the past. When I was younger and I wanted to see something like that I had to pay someone who was older… Now I have friends who have kids in high school and it’s readily available.”
Interestingly, West appeared supportive of his wife in a clip from her E! True Hollywood Story, in which he explained: “Kim does have all of this potential… this is my wife, this is my life. Whether she’s getting someone out of prison or she’s posting a photo with her nipples barely covered, this is who I married.”
