Kanye West Is Kim Kardashian’s ‘Go-To Stylist’

Monica Rose used to be Kim Kardashian’s go-to stylist. She styled Kardashian along with the rest of her sisters for nearly a decade until April 2017 when the sisters publicly split from Rose, according to People. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Kardashian briefly spoke about no longer working with Rose.

“I haven’t worked with her in maybe four years, so my reason is not connected to this,” Kardashian told Cohen. “You’d have to ask Khloe and Kendall and Kylie and the girls [their reason].”

One of Kardashian’s more recent stylists is Simone Harouche. The stylist and interior designer attended Marymount High School with Kardashian and her sister Kourtney.

While Kardashian may switch up her team of stylists every now and again, one stylist has remained the same. Her husband, rapper and Yeezy designer Kanye West, styles many of her looks. Keep reading to learn what happened in 2012 when she let her then-boyfriend give her a makeover.

West gave Kardashian ‘a fashion makeover’

In the early days of Kardashian and West’s relationship, West asked Kardashian if he could give her a makeover. A “fashion makeover” to be exact. Kardashian told Vogue magazine the story of how her fashion makeover happened.

“When he was still fairly new to the relationship, he was like, ‘Can I give you a fashion makeover?’ I was open: Sure! Dress me up! He took me to a Lakers game and he put me in this black Givenchy leather dress and Tom Ford snakeskin shoes,” Kardashian said.

It’s important to note that at this time in 2012, Kardashian was known for wearing body-hugging clothing from head to toe. While she still does use this outfit formula today, since being with West, Kardashian’s looks resonate as more high-fashion than her pre-West days.

Kardashian on makeover: ‘I almost started to cry’

“[…] A team of stylists came to my house, and when we came home [from the Lakers game], there were shoes piled up almost to the ceiling that they had taken out of my closet,” Kardashian said.

“I only had two pairs left! I almost started to cry. I spent years collecting those. And then there were racks and racks of clothes, designers I’d never heard of before, like Lanvin or Balmain or Margiela.”

West’s “fashion makeover” of his then-girlfriend appeared on an episode of the Kardashian-Jenner family’s reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Even though Kardashian said she almost started crying, at the time she said she felt inspired by her new beau.

“Kanye has definitely inspired me to be a little bit more of an individual,” Kardashian said on the show, according to StyleCaster. “I think my style is evolving and changing, and I think it should, because that’s what life is about. He’s a fashion designer and he loves clothes, so I’m excited to collaborate with him and see what his take on fashion is.”

Kardashian not ‘offended’ by makeover

Jonathan Van Meter, who interviewed Kardashian for Vogue, asked her if she found West’s makeover controlling, to which she replied, “I wasn’t offended at all.”

She continued on about how she wasn’t offended by West because she got a response from people about her new look. “Because I saw what a response I got—he was right. He’s been my go-to stylist ever since,” Kardashian said.

“I’ve always admired how he’s marketed things or come up with ideas for his videos and his looks—he thinks ahead,” she added.
