Kate Chastain from ‘Below Deck’ Likens the NYC Subway to the Disney Tram
Although she basically moves mountains for her charter guests and Captain Lee Rosbach, Kate Chastain from Below Deck just did something that made her a little nervous.
That’s right, she rode the New York City subway. Chastain recently moved to the Big Apple. Although she’s been getting settled for the past few weeks she has yet to ride the transit system that most New Yorkers depend upon most.
She graciously posted her journey to her Instagram story to show how fun and easy of a trip it was. She even found a way to equate the experience to something she’s probably done dozens of times being a Florida girl at heart.
Chastain recently left Florida for New York
Although Chastain was based in Florida, she made the big move to New York. The chief stew traded her sunblock and beach days for the sophistication and excitement of Manhattan.
Chastain hasn’t shared exactly why she chose to migrate north, but she has become a major brand for Bravo and the Below Deck franchise. She’s posted a few taxi cab and apartment pics and videos. Plus she has friends in the area.
She recently posted a picture on Instagram with a friend and, of course, her pup Halo, hanging out in the West Village. “My friend Lydia and I love a theme party so much that we brought a grey dog to the Grey Dog,” she wrote.
She embarked upon one of the most efficient ways to travel in the city
You can take the girl out of Florida, but you can’t take Florida out of the girl. Chastain posted that she was admittedly nervous/excited to ride the subway even though she’s experienced the “tube” in London, England.
Although New Yorkers are pretty blasé about hopping on the super convenience subway system, other places, like Floria don’t offer decent public transportation. Especially anything that rivals the New York subway system.
To put the New York subway system into context, approximately 4.3 million people ride the subway in the city each day, according to NY.com. Furthermore, one billion take this ride every year. The transportation system is probably the most cost effective too. Only a few bucks will take you pretty much anywhere you want to go.
But she was admittedly nervous to attempt the NYC subway
Even though “everyone is doing it” Chastain was humbled by the grid. So she took to her Instagram story to share how she tackled this journey. And found it to be–pretty good!
First, she admitted she was nervous. She enlisted the help of her friend and After Deck podcast producer Molly to support her in this endeavor. She filmed herself journeying to the underground. “I’m actually very excited,” Chastain said. “I’ve got my MetroCard out.” True to her nature, Chastain is very (very) prepared. “Fun fact, I watched 3 different, ‘how to ride the NYC subway’ videos on YouTube earlier today as preparation.” Gotta love a prepared stew.
The women both arrive and Chastain is about to take the plunge. Alone. Yikes. But once she’s actually on the train she finds it to be pretty similar to something she knows from home–the Disney World tram. In the end, Chastain is triumphant as she tells Molly she made it! She struts down the street.” Safe, sound on my way home,” she remarks. “Yay!”
