Kate Middleton Is Not the First Member of the Royal Family to Open Up About Mom Guilt

Kate Middleton knows exactly what it means to have mom guilt. The Duchess of Cambridge opened up about motherhood during an interview with Giovanna Fletcher on the podcast, Happy Mum, Happy Baby. The two covered a wide range of topics, including how Kate often feels guilty when she has to leave her little ones at home.

How many royals feel mom guilt?

Considering how many engagements the royals undertake on a yearly basis, it is not surprising that some of them feel mom guilt just like other working mothers in the world.

In a recent interview, Zara Tindall admitted that she feels terrible whenever she has to leave her two daughters, Mia and Lena, at home. According to Hello Magazine, Tindall revealed that she feels extra guilty whenever her husband, Mike Tindall, is also away from the house.

“If I’m away and Mike’s here I don’t feel guilty, whereas if we’re both away then I feel much more guilty,” she stated.

Tindall is the daughter of Princess Anne and currently lives in a house in Gloucestershire. Unlike Kate Middleton, Tindall and her husband decided against giving their children royal titles, a decision that has made life easier for them.

With Prince William set to take the throne one day and Prince George in line behind him, Middleton did not have a choice when it came to giving her children royal titles.

Kate Middleton opens up about mom guilt

Tindall is not the only member of the royal family who has experienced mom guilt. During her interview with Fletcher, Middleton admitted to feeling pangs of guilt whenever she leaves behind her three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

“Yes, absolutely! I think anyone who doesn’t as a mother is actually lying,” Middleton said after being asked if she has ever dealt with mom guilt. “Even this morning at the nursery visit here, George and Charlotte were like, ‘Mummy, how could you possibly not be dropping us off at school this morning?'”

The Duchess of Cambridge added that it is a constant struggle balancing her duties with being a good mother. With Middleton and Prince William taking on more and more responsibilities in the royal family, things are not going to get any easier.

Now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are out of the royal family, Kate Middleton and Prince William are expected to increase their workload in the coming years.

And once Prince Charles takes the throne, William will take on even more responsibilities managing the Duchy of Cornwall. Luckily, Middleton can draw on her own past to find solutions to being a good mom.

The Duchess of Cambridge dishes on her own childhood

In the podcast, Middleton revealed that her parents were very hands-on when raising her and her siblings. Not only were they always there for Middleton, but she now understands how much they sacrificed to make life easier for her.

“It was great fun. I’m very lucky to come from a very strong family,” she stated. “My parents were hugely dedicated to my siblings. I really appreciate now as a parent how much they sacrificed for us.”

Kate Middleton added that her parents were always there to support her various endeavors and taught her how to appreciate the little things in life.

She has passed those life lessons on to her children and is also a very hands-on parent, at least whenever she can be. This is probably one reason why Middleton feels so guilty leaving her children behind.

Speaking of children, Middleton has done a lot of charitable work in the realm of early childhood development, a move that has drawn a lot of praise for the royal family.

Fletcher compliments Kate Middleton for being so open during their interview

Following her interview with Middleton, Fletcher revealed that she got very little sleep leading up to their big chat. Although Fletcher has interviewed high-profile guests in the past, Middleton was her “dream guest,” which is why she was so nervous ahead of time.

“The week before, I literally wasn’t sleeping,” she explained. “Because she’d been on my wish list for so long, and my dream guest, it’s one thing to actually want someone on and then to get them and go, ‘Oh my gosh, that comes with so much responsibility.”

But once Kate Middleton got into the studio and they started talking, all the nerves melted away. It also helped that Middleton was very open about her parenting experiences, which is something that is very rare for a member of the royal family.

Fletcher also added that Middleton seemed genuinely interested in her early childhood projects and that she is very open to hearing from other people and learning new things.

Kate Middleton has been a part of the royal family for nearly 10 years. She and William currently share three children, though there has been some speculation about the pair expanding their family by one more.
