Inside Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s Relationship
After deciding not to move into the main Kensington Palace headquarters — where Prince William and Kate Middleton live — Meghan Markle’s relationship with her sister-in-law is under a microscope. But, do the royal women really hate each other? Find out what Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s relationship is really like, ahead.
Are Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle friends?
Recently, rumors have stirred about Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s relationship as some sources close to the royals claim the two are feuding. But, as it turns out, the sisters-in-law don’t actually hate each other — their husbands are (apparently) the ones in a tiff. Vanity Fair reports that the duchesses have made an effort to get along and any of the issues surrounding the two stem from Prince William and Prince Harry.
In the near future, Prince William and Prince Harry will have very different roles to fill, and Prince Harry “want to be his own person not in William’s shadow,” a source told Vanity Fair. The brothers are allegedly “moving in different directions” and Prince Harry wants he and Meghan Markle to have different royal duties that are separate from the Cambridges. On top of that, he has a very different view of how he wants to raise his child. “The countryside works for him and Meghan because they want to raise their son or daughter away from the limelight,” the source explained.
With that said, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are not the best friends we dream them up to be, but they do get along and make nice for royal engagements and family affairs. They also likely chat about some of their common interests like cooking, yoga, and, now, pregnancy and motherhood.
Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s relationship
Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s relationship is not entirely as dramatic as rumors make it out to be. Sure, they have their differences — after all, they come from two very different backgrounds — but they are a lot alike in some ways and also spend a lot of time together, given their family situation.
Up ahead, we take a closer look at what the sisters-in-law have in common, plus what their relationship is really like.
They are both commoners
The most obvious similarity between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle is they aren’t royal — or, weren’t before meeting their prince charmings. Both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle didn’t grow up in the royal family, which means they have likely bonded over their introduction to royal life.
They love yoga and running
Both the duchesses are into their health and fitness regimen — and they both love yoga and running. It’s unclear if they have worked out together before, but they might bond over their shared practices and habits.
They cook for their families (and grocery shop for themselves)
Kate Middleton might not have had a lifestyle blog to show for it, but she loves cooking just as much as Meghan Markle. The two cook for their families often and even head to the local grocer (Meghan loves Whole Foods!) to pick up ingredients for their recipes.
They both break royal rules
As the wife of a future king, Kate Middleton doesn’t have as much freedom as Meghan Markle. However, she still manages to bend some of the royal rules and traditions. She and Meghan Markle likely don’t do so on purpose, but probably discuss how silly it is that they can’t eat garlic at Buckingham Palace.
Kate Middleton and Prince Harry have a close relationship
Before Prince Harry married Meghan Markle, he often tagged along with Prince William and Kate Middleton. The three were apparently super close and — despite his differences with his brother — it is assumed that Prince Harry and Kate Middleton are still quite fond of each other.
Their relationship has likely benefited Meghan Markle, as she seems to be a good match for the once party boy and Kate Middleton wants the best for her brother-in-law.
They come from two different worlds
Despite growing up as commoners, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have two very different backgrounds. For one, they are from two different countries. Also, Meghan Markle gained stardom before her connection to the royal family, so being in the spotlight could be an easier transition for her than it was for Kate Middleton.
