Kate Middleton and Prince William Have an Old-Fashioned Marriage

Duchess Kate Middleton and Prince William are one of the most popular couples in the British Royal Family. Though they had a few bumps and hurdles in the early years of their relationship — their marriage seems pretty solid.

The pair met during their first year at St. Andrews University, and by the time they graduated they were head-over-heels for one another. Though the duo wed ten years after they first began dating, they seem to be the picture of domestic bliss.

With three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — the future Crowned King and the duchess have added only a sprinkle of modernity to the old fashion traditions of the royal family.

Kate Middleton and Prince William were well prepared for royal life

Unlike Duchess Meghan Markle and Prince Harry who are currently struggling under the weight of living as senior members of the British Royal Family, the Cambridges were well-prepared for this. Middleton dated the prince for years before they wed. As a wealthy British woman, she was also well-received by the British royal press and public.

Likewise, the future Crowned King was in many ways way better prepared for his position than his father, Prince Charles. While the Prince of Wales grew up distant from Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip — Prince William was nurtured by his parents even after their divorce and his mother’s tragic death. “He is better set and better grounded than any predecessor one can remember,” royal historian Robert Lacey told People.

It also helped that Prince William was welcomed into Middleton’s life by her parents –Carole and Michael Middleton.

Kate Middleton and Prince William complement each other

Though she’s not as outspoken as her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex, Middleton has her own way of navigating royal life that works well with her husband’s approach. “They have different roles, but they come together as a team,” a royal insider explained to People. “They are a great double act. People make much of William giving the big speeches, but Kate is there too, asking questions of presidents and their wives. These things are easier when they are side-by-side.”

While the Sussexes are trying to redefine what it means to be royal — at least in their approach, the Cambridges have taken a traditional path. “They look after each other but in different ways,” an insider revealed to people. “Some people might say it’s an old-fashioned marriage, but it seems to work.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been showing more PDA lately

They don’t go around embracing each other or holding hands all the time, but the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been showing just a tad more PDA lately. Though there is a big debate over whether Middleton shoved the duke’s hand off of her during an appearance on BBC’s A Berry Royal Christmas — the pair have certainly been more handsy recently.

On Nov. 12, Prince William and Kate Middleton visited the Troubadour White City Theatre to thank the staff of their mental health crisis line, Shout. During their visit, royal fans were stunned to see the prince rubbing the duchess’ back. However, just because they aren’t a super PDA couple doesn’t mean they don’t adore one another.

“It is very clear that William and Kate are emotionally close, however, they do not seem to feel the need to prove their love — particularly when on official state business,” body language expert Robin Kermode explained. “They come across as a strong, independent couple and while they are always on show, they do not feel the need to ‘show’ their love for each other to the world.”
