Kate Middleton’s Relatable Mom Confession Is Winning Over Royal Fans
Mom guilt is real — even for members of the royal family, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge admitted. During a new podcast interview, Kate confessed something that many mothers struggle with and won over royal fans in a new way by showing just how relatable she is.
The duchess knows what mom guilt is like
As a mom to three young children who also has commitments to the royal family, Kate knows all too well that she can’t always be there for her kids. Working mothers know how real this struggle can be and the duchess admits that even though she doesn’t have a typical job, she still feels that mom guilt creep in.
She made the confession during an interview for the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast. When asked if she ever feels guilty, she answered, “Yes, absolutely — and anyone who doesn’t as a mother is actually lying!.”
Kate told host Giovanna Fletcher: “Yep, all the time. You know, even this morning, coming to the nursery visit here, George and Charlotte were like, ‘Mummy, how could you possibly not be dropping us off at school this morning?’”
Kate shared how moms take on this guilt
Kate’s life is nothing like the average mom (she shared how posing for photos after giving birth was a “terrifying” experience), but she still experiences those conflicted moments. “It’s a constant challenge. You hear it time and time again from moms, even moms who aren’t necessarily working and aren’t pulled in the directions of having to juggle work life and family life,” she noted.
When Fletcher added, “There’s always something to feel guilty over,” Kate agreed, explaining, “Exactly! And always sort of questioning your own decisions and your own judgments and things like that, and I think that starts from the moment you have a baby!”
She was very sick during her pregnancies
During the podcast, Kate also shared her pregnancy experiences and how those times were challenging for her and Prince William. She suffered from a severe morning sickness known as Hyperemesis Gravidarum during all three of her pregnancies.
“I got very bad morning sickness, so I’m not the happiest of pregnant people,” she shared. “Lots of people have it far, far worse, but it was definitely a challenge. Not just for me but also for your loved ones around you, and I think that’s the thing, being pregnant and having a newborn baby and things like that, impacts everybody in the family.”
Prince William, she explained, “didn’t feel he could do much to help and it’s hard for everyone to see you suffering without actually being able to do anything about it.” She called the time “utterly rotten,” sharing, “I was really sick. I wasn’t eating the things I should be eating. But yet, the body was still able to take all the goodness from my body and to grow new life, which I think is fascinating.”
Fans loved how she was so relatable
Kate’s podcast interview earned high praise from her fans, with one tweeting: “Kate’s honesty and openness is so relatable” and another noting: “I’ve always thought it would be amazing to sit down and chat with her as a friend, and this was just like that. Loved it. Love her.”
Her openness about motherhood spoke to so many of her fans. One tweeted: “LOVED the podcast! So lovely to hear Catherine speak so personally about her children, her pregnancy, her struggles with ‘mom guilt,’ etc. You can tell she & Will have worked hard to consciously create a ‘happy home’ for their children & now they hope to help others as well.”
