Kate Middleton Has a Very Specific View on Royal Life
Duchess Meghan Markle, despite her best efforts, is struggling to find her footing as a senior member of the British Royal Family. In contrast — Kate Middleton who has been apart of the royal family since 2011 is absolutely soaring in her role next to the future Crowned King.
Though the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wed in 2011 — they had been dating since 2001 which meant that Middleton had some understanding of what living life in a fishbowl would look like.
Still — the duchess’ view on being a royal and her approach to living inside Kensington Palace is very specific.
Kate Middleton knew exactly what she was getting into when she married Prince William
While Markle was unprepared for the whirlwind of royal life. Middleton was uber prepared for the position that she has. “She knows the importance of the institution and her role to play,” an insider told People. “She knows that being a member of the royal family is a bit like having a contract, you sign on the dotted line and you deliver Kate is in her element right now, she’s really stuck at it and persevered with what she believes in.”
Kate Middleton adores working with children
A major part of royal life is not being able to be in total control of your life. That can feel overwhelming for any sensible adult. To combat these feelings, Middleton has learned to lean into the things she loves, especially her work with children in early childhood education and development.
In March 2019 while visiting Northern Ireland — a tiny royal fan asked Middleton how she felt about being a princess and the duchess’ response was epic.
“I love meeting special kiddies like you. I meet lots of different people, it’s really… it’s really great,” she said. “I love working with young people. Everyone’s so brave and strong in some of the places we go meet. It’s very nice to meet you.”
This is how Kate Middleton approaches royal life
While the Sussexes have been trying to shift their approach royal life with a modern twist, Middleton is content with tradition. Royal commentator Rupert Bell explained, “In a way, Kate is a traditional, English rose as it were.”
Middleton’s traditional approach has also seeped into her marriage to Prince William. “They have different roles, but they come together as a team,” a royal insider explained to People. “They are a great double act. People make much of William giving the big speeches, but Kate is there too, asking questions of presidents and their wives. These things are easier when they are side-by-side.”
Still, despite their adherence towards tradition — the Cambridges aren’t some stuffy old couple who are made of stone. Their PDA or lack thereof doesn’t tell you anything about their relationship.
“It is very clear that William and Kate are emotionally close, however, they do not seem to feel the need to prove their love — particularly when on official state business,” body language expert Robin Kermode explained. “They come across as a strong, independent couple and while they are always on show, they do not feel the need to ‘show’ their love for each other to the world.”
