Valentine’s Day can be a lovely and romantic day that you spend with your friends and loved ones. Most romantic couples try to go to a nice dinner or do something special for one another. Close friends have also indulged in traditions like Galentine’s Day which celebrate platonic love. Unfortunately, when you’re a member of the British Royal Family –royal duties often prevent you from celebrating the romance of Valentine’s Day. In fact, Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton did not spend Feb. 14 together this year, and neither did Duchess Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Still, Middleton had a perfect Valentine’s Day even without her hubby by her side.
This is how Kate Middleton spent Valentine’s Day
Prince William spent Valentine’s Day at the Future Men charity where he discussed the ups and downs of fatherhood. However, Kate Middleton chose to spend the day with another one of her favorite boys. The duchess took her youngest son, Prince Louis out for a stroll in the park while her older children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were at school.
According to Hello! Magazine, the mom-of-three was spotted out in Kensington Gardens–the public gardens on the grounds of her home at Kensington Palace. She was pushing Prince Louis’ stroller and letting the tiny prince take in the fresh air. Hello! reports that the duchess was dressed super casually in black skinny jeans, a black puffer jacket with white sleeves, and New Balance sneakers. Apparently, her hair down and she had on minimal makeup. An onlooker told Hello!, “Kate was in a great mood during the walk. [She] politely smiled at people who recognized her.”
The duke and duchess are no big on a ton of screen time for their children, and they are very strict when it comes to their children playing outside as much as possible –it looks like the duchess is making sure Prince Louis gets started early.
This is how Meghan Markle spent Valentine’s Day
Duchess Meghan Markle didn’t get to spend much of first Valentine’s Day as a royal with Prince Harry. The duke headed to the Arctic Circle on V-Day to take part in extremely cold weather training with British troops.
Luckily, the troops had a hilarious surprise for the duke when he arrived–they decorated an igloo with photos of himself and Markle which he found quite amusing. Luckily, the trip wasn’t an all-day affair, and the Duke of Sussex was back home in London with his pregnant wife by 5 p.m. On her now-deleted lifestyle blog, The Tig–the former actress admitted that she adores Valentine’s Day. She wrote, “Hook, line and sinker, I am such a sucker for Valentine’s Day.”
Though Prince Harry did not reveal his Valentine’s Day plans with Markle to the troops, we can imagine that the pair spent a cozy and romantic night in–and that Markle probably cooked a delicious dinner for the both of them. After all, Markle’s philosophy on the big day is, “it is the thought that counts.”
