Kate Middleton Won Over the Royal Family When She Did This 1 Thing
It’s not always easy trying to win over your significant other’s family. Now, just imagine how tall of a task it must be when the family you’re trying to impress are the British royals.
That’s exactly what Kate Middleton faced when she was dating Prince William and something she was able to do garnered the stamp of approval from not only Queen Elizabeth II but the rest of the family as well. Here’s more on what she did that won over the hearts of the royals.
What Middleton did that impressed the royals before marrying William
Prince William and Kate Middleton dated for several years before they tied the knot. The pair started seeing each other when they both attended St. Andrew’s University in Scotland. Like most couples, they had their ups and downs. But in 2010, they announced that they were engaged and said, “I do” on April 29, 2011.
It seems like the Duchess of Cambridge was able to transition into her life as a royal with ease even under some difficult circumstances.
Royal commentator Juliet Ridden told Nine News Australia that Middleton was able to handle the press and media scrutiny very well.
“I think part of the reason Prince William felt so comfortable with Kate was that she was comfortable with this role — with the media following her, with being in the public eye,” Ridden explained, adding. “The royal family realized, ‘yes, this is a royal in the making.’”
One paparazzi scare got to William
Both Prince William and Prince Harry are protective of their wives and their privacy after what happened to their mother, the late Princess Diana. And there was one instance before the duke and duchess were married in which William thought the paparazzi went too far when they chased his then-girlfriend around in her vehicle.
After the photogs followed Middleton around in her car on her 25th birthday, a spokesman for the prince released a statement which read, “Prince William is very unhappy at the paparazzi harassment of his girlfriend. He wants, more than anything, for it to stop. Miss Middleton should, like any other private individual, be able to go about her everyday business without this kind of intrusion.”
How Middleton has won over the public as well
The way the duchess has conducted herself since she’s become a royal has not gone unnoticed by the public either and she’s earned respect for many of her choices.
“We realized how incredibly brave Kate was to face those photographers on the steps of the Lindo Wing like her mother-in-law, Princess Diana had done with William in her arms,” Ridden said.
After Prince George, the couple went on to have two other children and each time they appeared on the steps outside the Lindo Wing to share photos of their little ones with the media.
“Nobody could envy her having to face the cameras within hours of birth but each time she has done it with such grace and poise and we can’t help loving her for it,” Ridden added.
