Kate Middleton’s Friends Blast Claims She Shunned Meghan Markle, Say She Tried to Welcome Her Into Royal Family
Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex officially stepped down as senior royals on March 31, and many fans have continued to speculate about the exact reasons for their decision. Some believe it was all over the media scrutiny they had to endure, while others think that Meghan was never welcomed into The Firm by some royals.
A new book has claimed the latter but Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge‘s friends are firing back and insisting that Harry’s brother and his wife did try to embrace Meghan.
Claims in new book
Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, who co-authored the biography Finding Freedom about Prince Harry and Meghan, claim that Prince William and Kate did not welcome their sister-in-law into the royal fold.
The book alleges that Meghan was ‘disappointed that she and Kate hadn’t bonded over the unique position they shared.’ It also brings up that the Duchess of Cambridge did not acknowledge the Duchess of Sussex in church during Harry and Meghan’s final royal engagement.
It’s true that Kate did not speak to or make eye contact with Meghan the last time they were together in the U.K. for Commonwealth day. However, the Cambridges’ close associates said Kate went out of her way to make Harry’s bride feel like part of the family before Megxit was announced.
Kate Middleton’s friends say she tried to make Meghan feel welcome
The Daily Mail noted that William and Kate’s friends have disputed the claims made in the biography and insisted that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were very welcoming.
Kate and Will’s pals say that the pair “rolled out the red carpet” for the former Suits star. The Cambridges’ friends told the publication that they threw a party at their Amner Hall home for Meghan before her wedding day and even cooked for her, making one of her favorite meals.
“It’s just completely wrong to suggest they didn’t talk and plain wrong to say the Cambridges weren’t welcoming,” the sources close to Prince William and Kate said.
The insiders added that they “invited [Meghan] into their totally private inner sanctum at Anmer Hall and did everything they could to make her feel at home. They personally cooked her favorite vegan food, they couldn’t have been more welcoming.”
Another royal embraced Meghan
Another royal who was also reportedly very welcoming to Meghan was Queen Elizabeth. Harry’s grandmother did give his bride certain privileges that she did not give William’s wife.
Less than a month after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex tied the knot Meghan attended a solo engagement with the queen. Marie Claire noted that is something Kate did not do until 2019.
Meghan was also asked to spend Christmas with the royal family at Sandringham in 2017 before she and Harry were married. Prior to marrying William, Kate was not invited to celebrate the holiday with the royals.
